So we hit 300 million sometime last week. I have a class project and i am trying to see what your thoughts would be on the impact on this world and the US by the increase in population.
Surely the US does have plenty of room to take more people but in the rate that we eat up resources and the amount of pollution we generate. There is definately a environmental impact that has to go with the 3rd largest populous country in teh world. After all we do use over 35% of teh worlds oil. So is it good that we are breeding. Thoguh not at the rate that india is doing so, but still?

What are your views on the population gains and the environment.

My view is that the world does have its population and a growing one at that. we cant prevent people from having sex. Its goes against nature and what men are all about. HOwever if we can find ways to reduce our needs on resources that way our population expansion wont have that significant an effect on the environment.

Lets hear your voices..

I doubt it, to a certain extent its captialism that's to blame for some of our environmental problems and issues. For example we should have graduated from burning fossil fuels decades ago, but because it's such a lucrative business it still remains. Scientists have known for years that burning oil is'nt good for the planet, but capitalism in this case wins over the environment.

well true capitalism has taken favor when it came to fossil fuels, and thats understandable as the greed of mankind has taken over the general philosophy of utilitarian ethic. But should we continue to breed at the rate that we do? or do we change our perspective on the environment and start being more conscious of how we affect our planet?

I don't think there's anything particularly wrong with our breeding rate, what's wrong is that our goverments are'nt focusing on the important issues at hand. Instead of spending money on useless projects and endeavors we should be looking to expanding livable terrain. Areas like west in the United States, the Saharan regions in Africa, bringing commercial enterprises over to Mexico, colonizing the Australian outback. There are vast areas on the planet that can support a growing population, but because most goverments are focused on petty squabbling we are wasting valuable time in creating real estate for future populations.

well theres one child policy in china. and yes it does have effects, enviromentalists have been against so many kinds of development for so many reasons they just stall everything. high density housing in cities would be good but i'm sure someone would gripe against it, so people build in suburbs far away instead. as for poor countries, if they take aid they should have sterilization programs after the second or 3rd kid. only makes sense. as for illegals, they just turn into polluting americans so shut that off. you dont see them save up for a prius, its for a big ol decked out pickup truck they can cruise around in.

the vast majority of my female friends want 3 kids or less (majority want 2 kids). More educated people tend to have fewer kids..the poorer families tend to have more kids, which when you think about it is backwards

We should be more worried about massive population growth in the third world, population increases in the industrialized world seem pretty flat.

Building that wall on the border should do a lot to minimize population growth :)

mention that there should be NO sex limiting. cuz limiting sex is 1984-style. (READ BOOK BY GEORGE ORWELL)
most people are IMMIGRANTS, so we need MORE SEX, not limited. wanna slow population growth? make immigration stricter.
