So, the new Doom 3 expansion pack will have a Gravity Gun just like in HL2!

1/20 UPDATED

There is an new interview with Tim Williets on CVG, and here is one of the Q/As:

The gravity gun is something that Half-Life 2 has really made fashionable in first-person shooters. Did you want to include a weapon of this kind in Doom 3 or was it inspired by HL2?

Tim Willits: Not at all. In fact, you could access our gravity gun in Doom 3 by pulling down the console and entering a code which would then let you manipulate the physics with the cursor keys, but it wasn't something we wanted to focus on until now. And we're using it in more of a combat sense. For instance, you'll have to use it against the very first Hunter you come up against to send his fireballs back at him.

I got my new CGW mag yesterday. I was reading it today and here are some details Resurrection of Evil will ship with:

- 11 new singleplayer levels
- 3 new monsters
- 3 new weapons
- 4 new multiplayer maps
- Support for 8 plyaer DM

One new weapon is the previously mentioned double-barreled shotgun, another is a Half-Life 2 type gravity gun called The Grabber.

You've got to be kidding me! I've seriously lost some respect for id.

What.
The.
Fvck.

Wait for the new wave of innovation: Everyone having a gravity gun 🙁
Valve started off something very evil.

Just look at vehicles. Now they are pretty much a "must have" in FPS'. HL2, Farcry, UT2004, Halo/2

It's gotta be a misprint or something... D3 didnt have anything close to the level interactivity that HL2 does.

I've been told that a Gravity Gun was in a game before HL2, some Turok game on N64. I thought I played those at least a little but I don't recall the gun. I doubt that game had the physics of HL2 to really make the gun cool, and that gun is just one part of what made HL2 great anyhow.

They need to come up with original ideas for this expansion.

HL2 has the best use of vehicles I've ever seen in an FPS. I haven't played Halo 2 though.

No, it was not in Turok. At least not that I remember.

And I feel the same way Warcrow does... "Oooh, it was cool in that game! We should do it, too! Look guys! We're interactive! Really!"

Wasn't the expansion pack under development before these kind of details re:HL2 were released?

I doubt it. We knew HL2 would have a gravity gun a long time ago (E3 videos)

HL2 gravity gun was known before Doom 3 was released, and certainly before Doom 3 expansion was announced (I guess they only started work on the expansion after Doom 3 was released)

It was Turok: Evolution, for all 3 current consoles.

So who is copying who? 😀

Face it, nothing is original in games anymore. 😛

Face it, not copying good ideas is a stupid thing to do for a company.

Exactly.

How many FPS games have a rocket launcher? Doom was the first one I remember. How about the double barrel shotgun?

Or a RailGun? That's a fantasy weapon. Now that is something that has been copied in various forms in most any FPS since Quake2.

The only game that had realy original weapons was the first Unreal. They also were the first ones to do the dual purpose weapons that I remember of.

Maybe.

The first time I realy played a game with sniper rifle was good ol' GoldenEye on the Nintendo 64.

I don't remember which came first.

Rail guns are real weapons. They use electromagnets.

MDK came first.

It says on my PC Gamer (UK) poster:
MDK - First game to use a zoomed in sniper rifle, as copied by UT and Goldeneye.
So MDK came first.

Well I would consider the 1st time they showed up in a war to be first. 😀

Lost respect for id because they are implementing a gravity gun? Please. Ever heard the term "standing on the shoulders of giants?" Games constantly build on each other both in terms of gameplay and features.

Railguns that you carry around and shoot people with from your sholder are fantasy weapons.

Then again so are most of the pics you find on the internet but do you hear us complaining? 😛

Obviously you never played the first Halo.

Nothing about the HL2 vehicles made them special or unique IMHO.
