Im trying to start anything here. Its just a friend of mine got an iphone, hacked it and has all kinds of neat applications for it. My friend was also telling me about this one program that uses the phones accelerometer as a tool to measure your vehicles performance, 0-60, 0-100 etc. I asked him if it was a java based program, he said no.

So what im trying to get to is if anyone knows of a program like this for the w580i

J2ME usually doesn't support non-standard hardware like this... even bluetooth support is sketchy.

What did he need to hack exactly in order to get these applications. I have an iphone and did not need to hack it in order to download applications from itunes. Am I missing out on something?

I dont think the accelerometer in phones works like that, I think your friends winding you up.
I could be wrong and it would be cool if it did do that though.

the accelerometer in the 580i measures movement, you can sit in one place and shake your hand with the phone in it and it thinks you're walking. If the iPhone has an app that can measure speed in a car or something like that it would have to use GPS to track the cars movement. accelerometer can't do that.

Your friend might be pulling your leg, I'm just speculating that the GPS in the iPhone could track speed but I don't see why it couldn't.

My kenwood excelon deck does the same thing - these digital accelerator programs are not totally accurate - the only true way to measure these stats is at the track with a stopwatch

Whoa, that is a cool program. Too bad you can't send/recieve MMS texts from an iPhone. :( That just kills it for me.

You are correct you can't receive mms texts with an iphone, but this doesn't mean you can't send an e-mail to someone elses cell phone through mms.

if you know the carrier of the recipient, you can send an e-mail with the picture to the persons phone number @ their carriers mms email address.

i.e

att's would be (replace/add number with person's cell number)
