yeah, i been trying to get this generic pcmcia firewire/usb2 card off ebay. it seems that the same guy is selling a bunch... some for like $14 + $13 shipping... some for $18 + $9 shipping... some for $16 + $11 shipping. basically... no matter how you cut it... it's $27 shipped. so finally, i found a different seller and i calculated my max to get a $25 shipped price. when i got home today, i found out i was outbid by a sniper.. damn. then i fired up pricewatch and and found the same card for $22 shipped :D so i guess it was sorta good the auction got sniped... i found a better deal on pricewatch (that is... assuming the place i bought it from will not rip me off).

I never figured out why sniping hurts the person being sniped. You set the price you were willing to pay, anything higher would have been out of your price range right? Otherwise you would have set a higher bid.

Thats just the way ive always bid on ebay.

Yeah, I think most people just don't understand how ebay works, like the OP.

I mean, people just dont put maximum bid........if their maximum bid is 20 dollars, if they see that they are outbid, they will put a new maximum bid...., and then just keep going, until their *real* max bid is like 100 dollars.

who knows, maybe it's the rush and excitemet of an "auction."

So why didn't you just proxy bid to the highest price you were willing to spend?

Ebay is SOOOOOO not the place for cheap stuff... After the auction price and the shipping... hellfire, stuff is cheaper retail.

:)

i said i calculated my max bid to get $25 shipped... which means i took into account the shipping (which was $12)... subtracted $12 from $25 which is $13, punched in $13 and left. when i came back to check the auction last nite, the auction was sniped. so how is it that i "just don't understand how ebay works"? i know it wasn't u that posted that, but it seems like u agree.

Yes. so trust them. I use justsnipe.com and auctionsniper.com. :) So I can vouch that they're safe.

Yes personal experience.

AuctionStealer.com is better but isn't as reliable and has some restrictions. JustSnipe.com isn't as pretty but has been reliable for us. We've only lost 2 auctions out of 20+ using JustSnipe.com

We were also weary of giving JustSnipe our eBay username and passwords but that's the risk you take. Make sure your password is UNIQUE and isn't used for Paypal, online banking, Hotmail, etc. just in case.

I  sniping.

There's nothing like watching your $450 auction go to $880 in the closing 30 seconds.

MadCowDisease,

As a buyer I love sniping, as a seller I don't like it as much.

do people who use sniping programs generally use it so that they can bid at a specific time?
