So should I wait a month for LCD HDTV prices to fall?

I heard that there's going to be a big drop in LCD prices during or after the holiday season? How big of a drop are we talking? My dad and I are looking at getting a 40" 1080p LCD HDTV, and we're looking at one of the Samsung ones, the LN46A550. Cheapest online is $975 right now. Should we wait until Thanksgiving? Christmas? After the new year? Would it be something like $800 then?

I think the name brands won't be dropping in price all that much until after the HDTV conversion in February has passed. Most name brands are in short supply at most retailers. But most local places to you will price match black Friday sales if they are already bought in the 30 day return window when it happens. So it's up to you if you want a name brand now, and roll the price match dice, or if you want to wait and maybe pick up some cheapo off brand at Walmart or someplace for dirt cheap on BF.

I was hoping for an upgradeable to profile 2.0 BR player on BF, and I think you will see those cheap as manufacturers try to dump old stock.

I disagree with Snake. TV sales in have slowed to a crawl. They are going to have to lower prices if they hope to end the year on a high.

Circuit City is trying to avoid going under, and should be closing stores any day now.

I would wait, and see.
