So... should I get an E46?

I'm kind of in a search for a new car... Apparently there's a 2000 BMW 323i for $11,250 near me. I don't really know milage or anything, I'm gonna try to find that out tomorrow. Right now it sounds enticing.

Are these unreliable cars? Thanks!

I've had nothing but good luck and good times with the '98 323iC 5-spd I purchased in June '02. Well... aside from having to replace the top thanks to my negligence/lack of care of the top materials. No electrical or mechanical problems whatsoever--no regrets. 🙂

poor mans beamer 🙁
man when it is gonna need a repair watch out expensive for the poor man's beamer owner! I used to work at a BMW dealer and so some cars sit for weeks for either a part from germany OR peeps cannot afford the cost of repair on the low end cars.

What's your budget? If you're looking for a cheap BMW then you're looking for the wrong car - any cheap one you find will make up for it in repair costs. Don't listen to the BS high mileage stuff either, "that's nothin for a beemer LOL" because they aren't that reliable any more.

check the maintenance records. it could set you back a considerable bit of money if the person just doesn't want to fix it and is selling it off out of laziness. if you can barely afford the car, you won't be able to pay for the maintenance required.

Good idea. I'll ask the seller for the records if I go and check out the car. If you were in NW Ohio I'd be interested in your car 🙂

this girl i knew had one with 110K miles or so on it. She didn't seem to have any problems and it seemed to drive like new. Supposedly it had an easy life though, mostly highway miles.

It had no balls though, no one ever talks crap about BMW building gutless base motors. 😕

its my favorite 3 series styling...but it might be a bit underpowered (if you care about performance). overall, its one of the best cars ive ever driven (3 series in general), and there shouldnt be any issues with it. take it to a mechanic and be SURE and test drive it EVERYWHERE you think you might go.

Because it's the Ultimate Driving Machine, didn't you know?

I do and I love BMW. I'd never touch anything below an M3 for that reason.
