So should I buy Unreal 2004 - or is there going to be an Unreal 2005?

i'm sure they will continue the series.

the unreal 3 engine looks amazing so there might not be a new version for awhile

and i agree with digitalsnare, i didn't like UT2004 as much as UT and UT2003

IMO, they are the same... like sure theres a diff engine, but most of the gameplay is the exact same... which is why ppl have gotten bored of it

I thought the engine was exactly the same between UT2003 and UT2004.

Although for what it's worth, I end up playing the original UT much more than UT2004 (although I'm sure that's partially due to the friends I play with having slower computers).

2004 is what they should've released had they not had pressure to get the game out in 2003. It was more refined, rather that being a different game like it was billed as. No doubt they'll release a new version.

Actually UT2003 was released in October 2002, but I agree. UT2004 should have been the successor to UT, and UT2003 should not even have existed as such.

Ooops, slight mistake! I meant for 2003, I ended up buying it in Jan 2003 here.

There will be no UT2005. The next released game by Epic using the U3 engine will not even be based upon the UT series. There is rumor that there will be further expansion (free of course) for UT2k4 but I don't know if that will materialize. The next installation of the UT series is most likely to come out sometime in 2006.

Buy UT2k4. It's a great game and has so many available mods, including some awesome single player games, that my UT2k4 folder is over 20 gigs on my hard drive.

Edit: It also took Multiplayer Game of the Year at both IGN and GameSpy.

UT2004 kicks mucho a$$.

Got the DVD version at EB just the other day for $25 or something. A lot of gaming to be had for that price.

Heck, I haven't even tried the online yet. Just been playing the ladder and instant action. Why can't other game companies make bots this good?

The mods and complete conversions are incredible. The sheer number and variety of gameplay is amazing. There's FPS, Action/Adventure, Top Down Shooter, Linear 2D, Racing, Auto Demolition, Arcade, Sniper, and several others. Seriously, if I didn't want to, I wouldn't have to buy another game for 3 or 4 years and just have fun with UT2004 and all the mods.

Here's a list of many of the mods and total conversions available.
