bthorny... I agree. Rock has been dead for years.

But Godsmack and Disturbed has renewed my faith that good rock can still be done.

lol. oh, wingznut, you're such a joker.

seriously, those might be two of the most simplistic, immature and pointless bands in rock and roll today. at least creed pretends to have something to say. these guys are too dim to even think of something to pose about.

Agreed (that they are simplistic, not immature and pointless). I'm just kind of sick of people telling other people they have bad taste in music. If it's what they like to listen to leave them alone.

but i'm in such a flametastic mood today! :(
You suck and your music tastes blow!!!!

::blushes:: you're too kind.

Screw the sound-alike "rock revival" I got the new Disturbed CD today, and it rocks. Same kickass music as the Sickness, without the depressing theme. Its lot more intelligent IMO, so shut up thomsbrain :)

great point, ( I take criticism constructively) sleater-kinney rules, I tottally forgot to list them, I guess good music is still out their you just have to search for a little harder :)

It really sucked when grunge killed most of metal's popularity back in the early nineties.

Metal bands like these made truly mind-blowing music.

W.A.S.P
Iron Maiden
Skid Row
Manowar
Tesla
Dio
Danzig
Accept

Even most of the following "hair" metal bands were more talented and produced better music than the grunge and rap metal movements that followed.

Warrant
Slaughter
Winger
White Lion
Danger Danger
Cinderella

Some metal bands from this era have continued to produce albums and tour (albeit in obscurity for the most part), but generally, music since the early 90's has been hugely disappointing. (Before anyone starts flaming, this is strictly my own opinion).

I saw a few Grateful Dead titles on that list. I don't think they are the best, but they are really the two major types of music the Dead played. Check out some jam bands they rock too ;)

Yes, for years Rock has been dead on Mtv and Clear Channel radio, but you can always find great music in every genre when you steer away from pop-centric media outlets.

I enjoyed Godsmacks' first offering, but the 2nd disk was more of the same, IMO, so I didn't pick it up. Disturbed...well... not my cup of tea.

Yes, The Vines, Strokes, White Stripes, etc.,. do have a more "rock 'n roll" sound then what's been out the past few years, but I think they are going to be part of the shortest "fad" in pop music 'cause they (and the other groups playing that style) are all being pushed into the limelight at the same time. It's almost like the over saturation period will happen at the begining of this musical style cycle instead of towards the middle... oh well.
