What he said is true. An odd truth to say at that moment, but it is still the truth.

In what sense? There is no official language of the US, and to my knowledge the federal government has never attempted to mandate one for individual states. In any case it strikes me as a pointless thing for him to raise. I can only assume that if it was premeditated (and he is smart enough that I imagine it was), it represented a deliberate sacrifice of the PR delegates in the hopes that it would solidify his position among his base in the states, particularly the southern ones.

Watch out, your hubris is showing again.

EDIT: Time Warped...

Is it? Look carefully at what I posted. I posted that more people care about what I say than what you say about me.

"What I say" refers to many things, including threads I create. Many more people have posted in threads I create than have commented on what you say about me.

Why do I have this picture in my head of Rick Santorum running down the street chasing a porn star with lust in his eyes after reading the OP's title?

My bad, I thought the Puerto Rico Democracy Act had passed through Congress and was signed into law. It actually did not, they ran out of time before Congress adjourned.

It would have required:

House Vote
On April 22, 2010, Resident Commissioner Pedro Pierluisi announced that H.R. 2499 would be voted on in the week of April 26, 2010.[16]
on April 29, 2010, H.R. 2499 passed the House with a 223–169 vote. Two amendments were added to H.R. 2499. The first, proposed by Virginia Foxx, stated that it "would allow supporters of the commonwealth status quo the option of voting their preference during the second stage of the plebiscite." The second, proposed by Dan Burton, stated that it "would retain the requirement that all ballots used for authorized plebiscites include the full content of the ballot printed in English" —a consideration already contemplated in Puerto Rican electoral law. It would also require the Puerto Rico State Elections Commission to inform voters in all authorized plebiscites that if Puerto Rico retains its current status or is admitted as a State: (1) any official language requirements of the Federal Government shall apply to Puerto Rico to the same extent as throughout the United States (regardless of the fact that English is already an official language in Puerto Rico); and (2) it is the Sense of Congress that the teaching of English be promoted in Puerto Rico in order for English-language proficiency to be achieved"; regardless of the fact that English is already taught in all grades from primary school, middle school, and high school, as well as in higher education.[17

As an aside, you know how hard it was to find info on this act now that Santorum said what he did? MUCH harder than it would have been last week! lol

Does not change anything. You still refuse to publically admit when you are wrong. The only way to change that is to actually publically admit when you are wrong.

I know, I know, who would have ever expected that to be the way to change it, eh?

Yea you have it all wrong. He's chasing her with hate in his eyes, as soon as he catches her America will have its first public beheading, to set an example of course. Porn stars that voluntary surrender will get gassed in private chambers. Those that USA.Gov have to chase down will also be beheaded at the pleasure of President Rick Santorum. Family values will come to the USA and it will be glorious!

Interesting reading, thanks. I certainly didn't know that English is already the official language of PR (as that bill states). I doubt we are close to PR becoming a state anyway, but this is interesting.

I doubt they are close to it either. I wonder why, though. Anyone here from PR?

Won't they get into a physical fight instead, where one of them pulls out a gun and shoots the other? ;)

If Santorum were to be elected we would definitely have Puerto Rico as a state. It would be an excellent staging area for war with Brazil and Venezuela. All the bases that would go up there would be really great for the PR economy.

If the hubris you're referring to is related to whether or not people care about what I say, then yes.. the part of my reply you didn't include does matter.

I'll admit I'm wrong when I'm wrong. As it is, I've acknowledged and corrected the error that I made; an error that resulted from our posts occurring at the same time. Your desire to see me type a few specific words is curious, but not something I'm going to provide simply because you're fixated on it.

Why would we go to war with Brazil? Did they do something I missed?

With Santorum as president, we'd go to war with Brazil because of all the partying that goes on during Carnival. How dare they do something that offends our president's God!

You're joking right?

Were you asleep during Bush's presidency? We don't need a reason to go to war anymore.

Besides they are pretty close to Venezuela, so I'm sure Hugo Chavez has talked to them about using gold for international trade and circumventing the dollar. That's reason enough to turn that place into a parking lot.

Please Santorum, spare Chile though, I really like my off-season fruit from there.

Hmmm on top of wanting to keep women from becoming wanton harlots by denying them birth control he's going to try to deny them an indiscriminate sluts favorite form of entertainment which leads them even further down the road to perversity and bestiality?

Why he just might save their souls.. :whiste:

All of this, of course, is clearly defined in the US Constitution (the very framework of our Christian nation) as the job of the President.

Isn't Brazil where the booty shake originally came from? This plus the sexual perversion of Carnaval, would make an excellent reason to invade, take over, and Christianize the country.

I believe that both English and Spanish are official languages in Puerto Rico, but that English is required in federal matters, which is presumably why that part of the bill was added. Still, that is strange since three times as many Puerto Ricans speak Spanish as their first language and no such English requirement exists (though I think it should) within the States.

100X this. You do realize that Santorum cannot possibly sit by and subject Jesus
Cristo_redentor.jpg

to be forced to view all the depravity going on in Brazil. That statue of JESUS is in Brazil, they should be the most upright of men and women, and instead they prance about naked, having sex in the street with their farm animals.

It really is strange. Santorum was speaking in Puerto Rico the other day and made a point of reminding them that if they wanted to be a state, they would have to adopt English as their official language. What a bizarre, insulting thing to raise, and what better way to ensure that their few delegates will go to Romney? Santorum is a strange ranger.

You mean like it is in every other state?

(not).

Will Santorum ever run out of ways to show what a religious dick he is? If I wanted to follow all of his religious restrictions, I'd join his church. His insistence that the whole country become de facto members of his church by forcing his chosen dogma on everyone through the power of government is disgusting and un-American.

Is this guy out of his mind? Doesnt he know there are some economic problems that Americans are a little more concerned about. For a guy that probably hates Muslim's, him and the Taliban have alot in common. He has built up so much baggage trying to win over the kooks in the primary that he'll never be able to dig himself out if he actually gets the nomination.

Does Mr Santorum talk about small government which keeps out of people's business?
