So... proctor and gamble is on the offensive

Do yourself a favor & get a real razor (double edge), a shave brush, and some decent shave cream.

FAR better than the 3/4/5 bladed nonsense that people are molesting their faces with.

Was thinking maybe it was the Air Force gimmick for when you sign up for SS. They sent me 3 sets, everyone else I knew got 1.

I've been looking at DE razors, my wife thinks I'm nuts but I'm done shelling out $8+ per pack of carts.

BTW Viper, check your PMs. 😉

With current cartridge razor prices a DE will quickly pay for itself. I saw someone post that ignoring the initial cost (about $90 in my case) they could shave for under $3 a month (for cream/blades). And that's with good quality shave cream.

I posted this over on Menessentials:

This comment piqued my curiosity so I ran a quick spreadsheet. I assumed a Fusion was $10 + $3 for refills (US$). I then assumed a "typical" DE was $30 (Merkur HD or LH), DE blades were $0.50, and "extras" (brush, stand, bowl) was $100. I also assumed blades were changed once per week. The Fusion kit was initially less expensive, until the 47th week, when the DE kit "crossed over" and became less expensive than the Fusion kit. I'm not knocking Fusion, I just thought it was an interesting excersize. I would've liked to have compared "software" as well, comparing the typical canned shaving cream (Barbersol, Edge, Foamy, etc) to higher-end "traditional" products, but I honestly don't know how long a can lasts (I went straight from electrics to traditional wetshaving).

Of course, you could have a DE kit costing much less.

I asked a seperate question about how long the typical can of shaving gel/foam lasts, and the average answer was about two months (of daily use). A tub of high-end British shaving cream is about $24 but will last six months easy, so thats about $4/month. The average price of a "decent" mainstream gel/cream (trying to stay apples-to-apples) seems to be around $4, so thats about $2/month.

Hmmm...so if you change blades once a week, a Fusion will cost you about $14/month in blades and cream, while a DE will cost you about $4.50.

I better check my assumptions. 🙂

Either way, I shelled out the cash to get a DE kit together. I'm done with carts.
I think he meant per catridge, hehe.

I want a DE kit too, I've hinted to the gf 😉

Ahh..well that would make more sense. 🙂

I probably go through a can of shaving cream every 2 weeks or so. Some blades last a week, though for some freak reason I've been using the same blade now for about 2 months. I have no idea how I'm pulling that off. I get them off of ebay, mach3 blades for $1 each shipped.

The DE might be the way to go, but it's one less thing I don't want to hassle with in the morning. It's the same reason I drive an automatic (well, that's really because I'm tall.) I can press has hard as I want and be as tired as I want and not have to worry about cutting myself with a mach3.

I'd try out the Fusion if I got it for free, but why pay for what's not broke.
