I just got my 2005FP last month, backlight problem....big surprise.

So I call Dell and have them send me another one...

After about 4 hours on the phone, I finally get someone who speaks English at a 3rd grade level and can take care of it.

Today the new monitor comes from Dell.

IT'S REFURBISHED!!!

That's total bullshit, I told them this is a exchange under their return policy and I just bought this....

Then, the damn thing is from November, the same Month all the bad ones came from...

This is one is just as broken as the first, but this one has Burnt Pixels too!!!

I freaking hate Dell's customer service, it's rediculous....

Burn in Hell Dell.

All their other LCD's rock.......

Just wait and file for exchanges until they get it right.

I got the new lcd replaced and now i'm sitting with another new lcd but it has 3 dead pixels..
our lcd's come with 3 year warranty so i'm gonna exchange it later down the road.

Replacements might not help - I had 4 within the 21 days, the 3 replacements and original all had bad backlighting or several (>8 dead pixels, one had 9 IIRC). I would put the clear plastic sheet on the monitor when I returned them and circle the location of the defects with a marker. I fianlly said scew it, and got the Apple 20" Cinema Display - it was great out of the box. I also asked Dell to send me my fifth 2005, this time I intended to put it straight up on eBay without opening it (faster way to get my money back than wait for Dell to refund me). Well I get it today and the box says refurbished. I knew I couldn't eBay it so I opened it. Side by side with the Apple it was night and day. Same panel, but the Apple doesn't shift colors at various viewing angles nearly as bad as the Dell and backlighting is perfect. Then I discover that the bottom of the refurbished Dell was scratched up on tthe near the Dell logo. Absolutely unbelievable.

I've been using LCDs for 3.5 years now and never seen quality control as bad as the 2005's. I simply can't understand how people say oh its ok, its a $600 monitor. Step back and think about that...would you accept this level of defects or irregularities on any other electronic product at this price? How about a 6000U or X800XT that artifacted.

There's nothing wrong with the design of the 2005, but that quality control operation must be run by a stalk of corn and a pineapple. How can a panel have 9 dead pixels or have major scrapes on the bezel and get shipped out? The scrapes really pissed me off cause you should be able to see that without even powering it on.

I know the Apple costs more and they had problems early on too, but the difference is that they rectified their problems and you get what you pay for and the Apple holds its resale value better. It's not even a revision issue either - people still complain about problems with the 2001FP.

The 2005 may be a good value, but you get exactly what you pay for. A monitor is the last place in my computer I'm willing to accept a certain level of defects. People drop 600+ bucks on the video card to a PCI-E system then say we shouldn't complain about the quality of the 2005FPW for the price.

Good luck in getting it resolved :)
