does seem anal to me. contemporary americans are obssessed with the image that cars project. I can understand not wanting to have an incredibely conspicuous vehicle, but getting obsessed with dings and crap is stupid. if you want to avoid dings go to a place with valet. you're at wendy's man, it's par for the course.

i wouldnt have been that extreme. i would have keyed the person's car from hood to end.

would that be an overreaction? it's a car. it's not like she molested your child.

Dude, deal with it. It's a effing car, an object, get over it.
What are you going to do? Go over there and demand money? Scream at her and who she lives with?

Let's see, you can file an insurance, claim, which will ultimatly cost you money.
You can take her to court, which will ultimatly cost you money and time, which is money.
You can hope that the town or city decides to press charges against her for some odd reason, and takes it to court.
Highly unlikely, but if it happens, it will take your time, which usually equals your money.

You did take the cops time though, which costs the tax payers, which probably costs you if you pay taxes.

I say shoot her and eat her family.

haha. exactly

You know what, the fact of the matter is that that girl was inconsiderate in just driving off after damaging someone else's property. It's one thing if she did it by accident and didn't notice, but it's a little hard to open a car door on someone's car and not feel or hear an impact. Sure, maybe her life will "be messed up" because she'll have a hit and run on her record now, but maybe this will teach her to be more careful of other people's properties in the future. Life's harsh sometimes and I don't believe in automatically making it easier for someone, it only fosters laziness.

I don't blame you for being pissed, but did the police actually say that this would be considered a 'hit and run'?
I'm really surprised at that.

This actually happened to my cousin. This girl hit my cousin with her car. It was more like a tap but it did leave a dent. She gets out of the car and says, "I'm sorry about that....But I was just wondering if you had a girlfriend?".

I don't know why she thought it was necessary to hit his car to ask him out. Idiots.

You're doin' the right thing, man. I wish I could have found the bastard who smashed in the passenger door on my wife's Acura. (we weren't there when it happened, and no witnesses)

People need to take resposibility. If she got away with this she'd do it again to someone else.

Not my proudest moment, but someone recently put a nice 2-3" vertical white line and paint scratch in my driver/rear door panel with a ford focus. I looked at it, lined up the white paint left on my red car with the newly exposed white underpaint (blue focus) on that person's 2 door car. I got pissed, wrote down their plates, make... did a circle back around (was going to drive off) in the nearly empty parking lot and put a equal size scratch into that person's door, right under the door handle (where they would see it constantly) with my key. Not too hard, enough to expose the undercoat.

Do I feel bad for inflicting damage on another's car, yes... the focus was actually newer than my car (red 97 Jetta GLS).... but the idea of being the only one suffering because of another's disreguard didn't sit well.

Would I have called the cops over this, no, not worth the time...

who gives a damn because someone hit your door by mistake and make a dent not bigger then a dime

I didn't take a cop off of anything, he said he wasn't busy, and provided nothing came up, he wanted to pay her a visit to see if she'd fess up.

thats ridiculous. its like someone going to drive up next to your door at a traffic light and just give your door maybe a few nicks. i mean, cmon, its just a ding right?

he didn't get "few" he got only one ding
also read what i said " hit your door by mistake"

he can screw that girls life (she can get a record) because of a damn nick made by MISTAKE

Made a dent by mistake maybe, but ran off by mistake, too? I'm not sympathizing here, and I'm not ruining her life. There will be no charges brought from this and she will not pay a hefty fine.

Well, let's not go that far...that's illegality on the officer's part! :)

Borderline illegal.

Hogtieing her throwing her in the trunk, running over as many railroad tracks as you can then taking her downtown locking her in with the crack ho's and forgetting to file her paperwork until she is discovered a week later is probably a wee bit more illegal.
