My sister has panic disorder...meaning that anxiety attacks are a daily occurrence for her. It's the most fvcking annoying thing ever, and she gets extremely defensive about it. She refuses to drive on the highway, eat fish, eat mangoes, run in cold weather, and a host of other things because she thinks they 'cause' panic attacks.
Yet with her high-stress, high-stakes job, she never has gotten an attack while at work. If she's not buying into psycho-babble bullshit, I don't know what it is.

Anxiety attacks are purely psychological.
People who have anxiety attacks usually cannot help themselves, and cannot explain wtf is going on.
If your anxiety attacks progress (upwards) you will eventually be unable to even leave your home (without suffering an attack). I would see appropriate medical help immediately (read: psychologist/psychiatrist) since the root of the problem lies not within your body, but your mind.
hope this helps
No. Anxiety attacks have a biological etiology as well. Disturbances in the cerebral cortex, specifically the limbic system are associated with the pathophysiology of anxiety attacks. Also, because of benzodiazepine effects on treating anxiety, GABA has been linked to the pathphysiology of anxiety attacks.
