Cliffs on bottom.

I purchased an item from Outpost.com. The item wound up being out of stock, but they still charged the item to my credit card. Now I'm unable to make a similar purchase from one of their competitors that DO have the item in stock because the money isn't in my account. It's absolutely ridiculous (albeit illegal) to charge a customer for an item without checking the stock of the item first.

Yes, I called them. They said, "The money should be in your account." To which I responded, "Well, it isn't." The customer service representative told me to wait another TWO DAYS for the money to get into my account before calling back. I'm filing a claim with the BBB right now. I'm so pissed.

"HAY GIEV ME UR'E MONIES N TEHN IL GO CHK 2 C IF WE HAEV NE LEFT LOLOLOOLL!!!#!`11" ... "NOEP SRY AL OUT BUT THX 4 TEH MONIE!!11 LOOLOLLL"

That type of sh*t isn't even allowed on Ebay. It's simply abhorrent that OUTPOST, of all merchants, has such unprofessional business practices.

Discuss.

Cliffs:
Outpost charges me for the order.
Outpost emails me to tell me the order has been cancelled (OoS).
I'm still unable to make a purchase from one of their competitors for a similar item/deal.
Called CS and got nowhere (told me to call back in two days).
Filed complaint with BBB.
Pissed and moaned on ATOT

I question your use of the word, "albeit". It doesn't seem right in that context.

Overboard? They have $400 of my money right now. I can't spend that money because they have it. Have I not made this clear or what?

Yeah, I guess you're right. I always thought it meant, "if not." As it turns out, it means, "even though" or "even if."

Have you seen Outpost's reseller ratings? It's time's like this that you'll realize why they're so low.

So they have refunded it back to your card and it will take two days for your card to have it credited back, and you are filing a BBB complaint on that?

You will experience much worse in life than this.

I'll have you know that I work for a retail development team. Consequently, I *KNOW* how long it takes to credit back the money. 24hrs MAX on the credit card company's end (~1min on the merchant's end). My point is that the card should not have been charged in the first place ... and THAT is why I filed a BBB complaint. ;)

It's perfectly legal. What I'd be willing to bet they did is not actually charge you, but put a hold on funds... it will look like a charge, but your CC company doesn't pay them anything yet... they do this so that you can't order $200,000 worth of merchandise in one night and only actually have a card with $1000 credit on it.

The problem is that outpost says you canceled your order, but because a hold was instated, they are not the ones responsible for releasing the hold on the funds... your card backer is because they put the hold on in the first place, to protect both themselves and the merchant.

Call your card company up, explain the situation, offer to fax over a copy of the canceled order page, and they'll release the funds (or at least offer to release a lock and allow you to purchase over your limit at another shop.

So a $400 dollar purchase put you over your CC limit?

Or do you really mean a debit card?
