Just got back from watching. They had over 100 combines lined up and did the entire quarter in one pass. It was quite something to see! :)

All the wheat was sold to the Canadian wheat board with proceeds going to support a local bible camp.

Video, Pictures and other information is all on their website now.

To make this a little more impressive for the city dwellers think of the dollar value in combines that it took to achieve that.

Additionally for those who don't know (I had to look it up) a 1/4 section is 160 acres.

I find it uniquely funny how people make fun of the very hand that feeds them.

You all make fun of farmers, yet without them the vast majority of you would starve to death.

1 section = 1 square mile = 640 acres

1/4 section is an area 1/2 mile by 1/2 mile, totalling 160 acres.

For the hell of it, I just priced a 2006 9660 WTS Small Grain Combine from a local John Deere dealer's website.

$224,249.00...(this is apparently base price because I didn't choose any accesories)

x100 = $22,424,900.00

Edit: I have no idea what kind of combines they were using, but if they were half as expensive as that one then...well that's still a lot.

isn' that like a 1/2 square mile? That is insane. A 100 combines would be right about 300 million dollars.

They do the same thing to truck drivers.

Who's up for a boat ride to Germany to pick up a new BMW?

Thanks, you beat me to it with the definition of "1/4 section."

Still, I have never heard of a "section" before. Bushel, foot, meter, inch, kilometer, acre, hectare, mile etc. Sure. But "Section?"

What makes this feat even more bible belt middle America is that they did all of that...for charity.

Farmer 1: Allrighty Jimbob!!! We done did it! (spits tobaccy on the ground)
Farmer 2: PRaise the lord, Jeremiah! Yes we did!
Farmer 3: We set the record, heck yes!!! Now we can give the money away!
Farmer 4: Uh...fellas...don't we all still live in trailer parks?
Farmer 1: Oh sh!t.

So each combine costs 3,000,000 dollars. I don't think so.

Combines are generally in the 250 to $350,000 range. They were thinking that there was around $30,000,000 worth of combines at the event.

Link to a local website. No pictures yet though. I'll keep looking.

Looks like I was wrong. It took 11 minutes 16 seconds, not 46 seconds.
