So our local news channel did a review of the new Gillette Fusion...

And according to 4 men who shaved with the Fusion and two other popular bladed razors, the 5-blade Fusion did not produce a closer shave then it's 3 bladed cousin (MACH3 or MACH3 Turbo). The 4 men who tried out the new Fusion were also put off by the high price as many on the forums have mentioned. They also had comments from a Dermatologist who said more blades does not neccessarily produce a better shave, and that people often fall for the "more is better" theory. And it's those people that Gillette is banking on.

The old style double edged safety razor is still your best bet if you want a really good shave.....you know, the kind your grandfather or great grandfather used to use. Sometimes progress and technology is a bunch of hooey.

Those are great too but difficult to use well and thus the DE razor is the overall best choice.

I remember a report that Gillette put out a few years ago that said even the third blade in the Mach 3 razors had a very small impact on the closeness of a shave. I think this was in response to the Schik quad blade razor. So after that...they come out with a five blade razor

I still use the Sensor v1.0

It does good enough for me, and the blades are cheaper than it's replacements

Why two blades? Why not just one? Who needs a safety razor, straight razor for me. :) Mach3 is great. Everything since Mach3 has been pretty much overrated. I bought an M3 power only because it was on clearance for $5 and it came with more than $5 worth of shaving cream. Woohoo, I got a free blade and AAA battery out of the deal.

shaving creame is also something cleverly marketed.

you don't need shaving cream! I haven't used it in years.

just wash my face then start shaving while it's still wet.

It is called marketing one-upmanship and rather stupid.

My favorite has always been sensor/sensor excel. I only have a mach3 now because of gillette's dirty little habit of not supplying any of the older model for at least a few months when they bring out a new one. So I've gone from blades that you could usually find for under $1 to ones that cost at least $2.

It warms my heart to know that this extra spending is being counted as 'economic growth' when I get no benefit, just a bigger hole in my wallet from shaving:p

Being a person that often has the scruff look I can say that the "power" feature resulted in less pain when shaving through thick areas

Not everyone does...but for some of us our faces will turn red and be super irritated if we did that.

I always thought the Mach3 Turbo was a scam. All they did was add a slightly improved lubricating strip and created a new razor out of it. Many products are "new and improved" but don't stick it to their loyal customers by creating a new product and charge 35% more for this improved product like they do the Mach3 Turbo. I'll stick to my Mach3

I don't mind trying the next "great thing" if I think it gives me a noticeable improvement. I got a Fusion because they had mismarked the cartridges to $18 which wasn't too bad for 8(that will last quite a while). Overall, I liked its design better than my mach 3 power(which I have compared to a normal mach 3 and quattro). The trimmer works well and the power button is better designed.

Not everyone will benefit from a different razor but considering all our faces are different, I think some may like the new one. I did.
