So once these tanks get way in... How do they refuel?

It seems like they are making a trek all the way to Baghdad, but how do they reguel along the way?

There is so many behind the scene type questions i am cruious about.

War is horrible, but the strategy and logistics are astounding to me.

I thought it would be a rolling advance. For example, there would be tank groups #1-3 with group #1 being on the front lines, #2 near them but behind ,#3 behind #2 and the supply lines behind #3. Group #3 moves past #1, supply goes to #2 refuels. Now Group #2 go aheads of Group #3.

Hahaha such a confusing guess.

Crazy you know.

All the stuff you never think about. Like I wonder how much fuel is consumed in a day in one tank..

Fun stuff.

I always wonder why they make their vehicles such gas hogs, it seems like it would be better to be more fuel efficient.. case in point .. the hummer.

The hummer is capable of going almost at full speed in deep sand. It has to be a gas hog to do that. Plus military hummers are heavier than the H1s consumers can buy.

Also the tanks get pretty good gas mileage considering they way 63 tons, and can travel at speed of 43mph, with 1500 horsepower.

All that armor plating gets heavy--requires alot of torque just to move those vehicles. Light and fuel efficient means no protection. War isn't an autocross.

A Civic can't take an ordinance round to the roof.

As for how they do that?

They have millions and millions of gallons of fuel being used for this war. When the 3rd Infantry Divison moved out, they had alot of tankers in the rear, as well as armor carrying mobile bridges.

They have honda civic engines and are very fuel economical 🙂

I can just see it now.

Kanji lettering, and a big fat "VTEC" sticker slapped on the ass-end of the Army's finest.

Something like .6 mpg

Tanks use the same amount of fuel sitting still as they do moving 45mph. They run on a hydrostatic style transmission. So they use a lot of fuel. I have heard that they have anywhere between 100K and 200K gallons of fuel per group. So I don't think they will have a problem fueling the tanks. Everything runs on the same fuel.. It's a special type of diesel. Perty much a high sulfer type.

logistics of supplying your troops in warfare has been one of the most important things in warfare. unless you decide to pillage and live off your enemies supplies, you gotta bring your supplies. pillage not good unless your willing to kill everyone basically😛

BYO.... sort of. Fuelers follow behind (not too far hopefully, as a fuel stop is when the tanks are most vulnerable, and sitting waiting for the fuel truck to catch up ain't a good idea). Fortunately everyone uses the same fuel (yep... even the birds).

Tank can run approx. 8 hours.
Brads can run approx. 8-10 hours.
H V's about 10-12 hours.
