Doesn't the idea of a wireless hands free device kind of defeat the purpose of a cell phone earphone? I thought the original idea was so that it would eliminate all the cancer causing waves emitted from cellphones...😕

aren't we just taking in the same amount of radiation from the bluetooth headset?

by no means am I afraid of the radiation...i dont even own a hands free device...but i just find it a little funny...

I would think a bluetooth radio would be much weaker than a cell phone radio. Bluetooth only has to transmit like 10 meters (probably less for headsets) while cell phones may need to have enough power to transmit for miles.

the reason i bought one is because it is illegal to drive without a Handsfree set in NJ.

besides, i'm on my cell phone about 1500 minutes a month while driving. (I am on the road a lot).

Yup, a BT radio is much weaker.

A typical headset has a max power output of 2.5 mW (Bluetooth class II). Compare this to a typical handheld phone which has a max power output of about 125 mW (for a GSM phone). Both systems dynamically adjust the transmission power depending on signal conditions - but given the close range of a BT headset and phone, transmission power is likely to be close to the minimum of 0.25 mW

well im in new york, and the a lot of nyc'ers don't drive...in addition to that, you can do just as well with a regular wired handsfree instead of the bluetoot

yeh i know, but there are a ton of fanatical crazies out there that think radiation from cellphones will kill us all...im surprised they haven't jumped on the bluetooth radiation(or lack of) yet....


and i would love to see those boondocks comics hehe
 
Trendy? You are completely out of your mind. Maybe there is a reason why manufacturers choose to embed their phones with bluetooth technology??? I myself have a bluetooth wireless headset and it is great... especially since I drive a MT car, I don't have to have wires all around, preventing me from driving.

You obviously have no idea what you're talking about or else you wouldn't have said that. Every time I would turn my head to check my mirrors with a corded hands free the cord would provide just enough tension to move the earpiece and thus make me miss part of the conversation. I can do whatever I want to with the bluetooth headset and I don't have any problems with it moving.

mb, none of the wired handsfree headsets picked up my voice anywhere near as well as the bluetooth one i have.

it is incredibly convenient. and i always take it off as i get out of my car.

Sorry but the wire gets to be a pain in the ass. Either when walking around with it or when having to store it. I stopped using the earpiece that came with my phone because of it. I'm in no hurry to get bluetooth headset though.

seriously tho.

i think the bluetooth headset is the best thing since sliced bread. it has made my life SOO much easier. plus my cell phone integrates well with it (as they are both motorola pieces). i can hit a button on the headset, say "name dial", say the name and voila it's done.

 
I was traveling last week and a woman was sitting in the boarding area with a wired earphone/mic on her ear. After the flight landed she passed me getting out of the plane and it was still on her ear. Twenty minutes later I stop in the bar for a beer and the same woman is there having a drink, and it was still on her ear. On my way to the connecting flight I passed her again in the hallway and it was still there.

At no time did I see her talking, so I have no clue why she kept wearing the thing. Especially on the plane, when you can't use a cell anyway.

But I agree that some people do the BT thing for a fashion statement. Personally I would take it off if I wasn't using it because before too long you're going to have hoods grabbing them off of people's heads as they run by.

it's called bluejacking.

and i had my headset 3 years ago when it wasn't 'hip.' bluetooth has a lot of uses, say for example, tethering to my laptop from my phone in order to post on ATOT during my train commute to work on BART. i can also control winamp on my desktop from my bed with my SE phone. etc etc. BT SIG has got me by the balls.

Exactly...this is why i think some people use the BT as a fashion statement...i passed by so many people who had on, and were just chatting with their real life human person standing/walking next to them. whats the point of having it on if you are not using it?

LOL. what?

The reason is so you can answer incoming calls and still be hands free while typing on the computer or driving.

It has nothing to do with fashion. I have one and use it extensively when on calls and need to be typing on the computer or when walking or driving and dont want to hold my pdaphone up to my head.
No wires=godsend
