So now PayPal is REALLY screwing me.

About 2 months ago I was trolled through e8ay for $310. I used PayPal to pay for the auction and I got an empty box in the mail from the seller. I contacted PayPal and told them that I had be defrauded and that I wanted my money back. They said no and restricted my account. After I faxed them copies of my personal documents, I called my bank and told them the situation. My bank said that they could get my money back so I let them do their thing. Today I see that PayPal refunded my $310 to my bank account, but then charged my credit card $310 and re-restricted my account for trying to get my money back. I called up PayPal long distance and told them what was going on and that even though they charged my credit card, I would be calling my bank again to have them do a charge back. Now I have no clue what is going on, only that over the years I had no grudge against paypal, and I guess I do now. And I lost money. Great.

If you got the money back from your bank account just protest the charge as unauthorized with the credit card company and write them off. They can't charge your card without permission.

That's what I'm planning to tell my bank, but I'm worried that paypal has something in their user agreement that says they can do it in this kind of a case.

Wow. Just protest it and consider yourself a bit luckier than others. I myself have never had a problem with PP in over 130 transactions, but I get the shivers when I read these horror stories.

I really don't think it matters if they do. Deny the charge and get it removed then cancel the card. The credit card company will go to bat for you if you protest the charge. The CC companies have always done good by me.

I just got off the phone with my bank. It's going to be a long claims process all over again. I just e-mailed paypals conflict department telling them what's going on. I guess I want to see what they have to say. Even if I have a chargeback done and I have this card blocked, PayPal still has two of my other credit cards on file. So, I guess I'm pretty much screwed.

This isn't helpful or what you want to hear, but it was really not a good idea to give Paypal all of that info (bank account + three credit cards).

No you are not screwed. Don't take this lying down. Contact the other two CC companies and get them to issue you new cards with new numbers. If you have any reoccuring billing set up on this account then make sure you change them to correct your new numbers. Also contact Paypal again and let them know you will be billing them for the time you spend hassling with getting new numbers. Tell them if they don't pay your bill, then you will turn THEM over to corrections. See how that brightens their day.

If you do not want Paypalto get at the other cards, cancel them have have new one re-issued with a new number.

That will prevent any end-arounds by Paypal.

Don't let them get away with this crap. They stack the deck against you when you are trolled.

ander I would advise you to not deal with paypal anymore. First of all to get your funds back it takes ten days. Second of all you run up a large long distance bill talking to them. Also you will have to fax a crapload of documentation to them, as well as resubmit the documentation when they lose it seven different times. Then they investigate. They decide you are wrong and freeze your account. You lose all the money in your account and more than likely they will try to drain your checking account and your credit cards(looks like they have already tried).

I suggest you change all card numbers, restrict your bank account so that paypal can never withdraw funds again. Oh, also send them a ceritfied letter with a bill in it for your time.

Thanks everyone for your support. I'm currently working on getting some card numbers changed (but it's a weekend now) but unfortunately one of them might not be easy to change.

Anyways, I e-mailed paypal and also PMed Paypaldamon to see what else can be done. I was ready to just take the $310 hit but you guys inspired me to keep fighting. That and I'm a poor college student without a job and that can't sell anything (other posts on the forums confirm this). Anyways, thanks again, I'll keep everyone updated.

We have completed our review and have removed
the restriction on your account. Thank you for
your patience during this process and for helping
to make PayPal the safest and most trusted online
payment solution.

Too bad my account is still restricted and I still am down $310.
