This meltdown came too fast, like it or not, we must all rally around the President, because its the only entity in government that can react fast.

The boat is sinking, and we all have no choice but to bail. We can have a mutiny against the Captain later, meanwhile we all have to bail bail bail.

We may be sunk anyway, but we dimocrats have been warning you about this and saying GWB was steering this ship of fools for the rocks. And needed to be impeached.

Now the rocks are hit, the boat has a giant hole in it, and we are all in the same boat.

I think GWB's only fault was not to do anything earlier. Besides that, he didnt make or break any policies. Lot of the derivatives of the credit market are made in London, about 70% of them... It was the freedom of the financial institution that caused it and that freedom was granted long back, some 20 years ago...

Edit: OMG I trolled in my own post...

He said just last week that these CEOs shouldn't be getting their golden parachutes after the Fed bails their company out.

Are you saying he reversed this position?

Isn't the government just firing the CEOs? Are they really getting their golden parachutes?

I think your fear is misplaced, just because Obama doesn't see the need to repeat his opposition against CEO pay bailout over and over again doesn't mean at all that he is in favor of it. Finding a politician that supports CEO bailouts is about as common as finding one that spits on the flag. I think what may be confusing you is the substantial core of McCain's response to the financial crisis is a phony populist screed against CEO pay.

He just came out more strongly in support of the bailout but didnt mention anything about the CEOs... I was just expecting both of them to come out more strongly against those swines...

Obama -

"I'm troubled by the news reports that the outgoing CEOs may be in line to receive multi-million dollar severance packages as part of the Treasury plan," the Illinois senator told reporters.

"It would be unacceptable for executives of these institutions to earn a windfall at a time when U.S. Treasury has taken unprecedented steps to rescue these companies with taxpayer resources," he said.

The Fannie and Freddie CEOs are supposedly getting combined 24 mil in compensation unless that has changed in the last couple days.
