So now I know insurance costs for an 18 yr old with a '02 Z28

Squisher

Lifer
I got my first insurance bill in the mail yesterday that had my 18 yr. old daughter added to it. My agent screwed up and added my daughter as the primary driver of the wife's 2002 Z28 not the '96 Escort that is destined to be her car.

Insurance went from $700 for 6 months to $3350. :Q <---my face when I opened the bill for a total $5591 for 6 mo.

$6700 for a year Hahahahhehehehe

when i was 21 and single, i had a Mustang LX 5.0 liter. i paid $6000 / year for insurance. over 3 years i paid more for insurance than i did for the car, i bought it for $15k.

I always have to chuckle, or alternatively bite my lower lip, when people will pay thousands of dollars per year to drive around in style, but holy crap don't tell them that health insurance for their family is going to cost them $50 a month or that prescription co-pay is going up by $10 - they're ready to riot in the streets.

where do you find health insurance for $50.00 / month?? shoot, i'd pay $50.00 / month for health insurance. currently i'm paying $500/month so $50 would be sweet. but i don't see it happening cause it doesn't exist. unless your employer is footing the rest of the bill.

try ehealthinsurance.com or bluecross.com

infact if ehealthinsurace lists bluecross as an option where you live, you're better off going to bluecross. cost EXACLY the same, but you get to deal directly w/the compnay instead of thru a 3rd party.

if you dont need maternity coverage, it's probably cheaper than your company health plan.

well, i live in NJ and i have tried to go directly to BC/BS directly and to Aetna directly, prices are still the same. i have a family, so i don't expect it to be cheap. I was just commenting on the $50.00 / month. that is not realistic and DOESN'T EXIST.

Well I was specifically referring to when one's employer provided health insurance goes from "free" to $50/month co-pay, which I sorta implied when there after I mentioned one's already existing prescription co-pay increasing by $10, but perhaps it wasn't clear what I meant.

It is also a falsehood to say that $50.00/month health insurance doesn't exist. In Michigan, for $10/per month, per child, you can get health insurance for your children if you are low income through a program sponsored by the University of Michigan and an HMO whose name escapes me at the moment.

But yeah, typically when I hear someone griping about "I can't afford" this or that thing , I have to wonder whether they really mean "I can't afford that AND maintain my current lifestyle".

I know, I was one of those people not too long ago. $1500 for a stereo system? No problem! $3500 for a television? Let me at it. $28,000 for a nice ride? Get the sales contract ready. Another $2500 for rims, tires, and accessories? Of course, they are a must for that ride!

But $200 to see a dentist or $150 for a health examination, physical, and a prescription? GAWD DAMN JESUS F-CKING CHRIST THE HEALTH CARE SYSTEM IS OUT OF F-CKING CONTROL WITH THE SKY HIGH COSTS OF TREATMENT HOW AM I SUPPOSED TO AFFORD THAT ITS HIGHWAY ROBBERY!!!!

Better have as much money saved up for insurance as she does for the car.

I think if your mom can afford to buy a brand new BMW for a 17 year old, she doesn't have to worry about it.

What is up with that? Who the hell is responsible for these insane costs?

People like this girl I knew who wrecked 4 brand new cars in 6 months.. and her parents continued to buy her brand new cars.. 😕

I pay like $30 a month for my health insurance ...
I dont know what my copay is since I have not had a prescription in several years.

expensive cars and bad records will do that. He did say that there was 4 cars on his policy. That averages around $225 per car per month.
