it's recording who enters and exits the mens bathroom. it's disguised as a motion detector. the white part even turns red when the motion detector activates.

i cant figure out why they would want to do this. afaik me, and the person who installed it, are the only people who know.

1) someone is taking like 3 hour long dumps
2) someone is using the mens bathroom who shouldnt
3) a "couple" is going in there late at night

here's what happened.

I get a call from my boss's boss about where the wire snake is. I told him i dunno

the monday after that there is a tv in the server room. wierd. I am asked if there's something wrong with our network, because someone he (my boss's boss) is doing isn't getting any traffic. I made him cough up the ip, but it started working on it's own (whatever it was)

i portscanned the box, and there was only one port open. i looked up that port and it had to do with video recording over ip.

i went into the server room, and the tv was hooked up. i turned it on, and sure enough, it's recording the outside door to the mens bathroom (from the outside)

tuesday I noticed that there was another one of those hidden camera things on a table in the server room.

so.. they are probably going to be installing another one at some point. bleh.

We have those around here. They are motion detectors not cameras. Part of the alarm system.

My company tells all new hires that there are hidden cameras throughout the building but when someone stole the petty cash box out of accounting they admitted that there are no cameras inside, at least not in accounting (where I work). Those little white boxes are mounted here though.

well if you have a ladies room also and even one lady working there, that could be an interesting lawsuit.

I hate all these companies beancounting seconds of a day.

My boss used to bitch about my BR breaks (I trained and always had water on me)...

I mentioned to him that I was also one of the few people that would:

work 24 hours+ straight if needed

fly cross-country on a 1 hour notice

come in on a day off/holiday if called (yet alone even answer the phone from a call from work).

etc...

That is what I'm thinking he is seeing. They are just motion alarm detectors. If its small and white and you don't see an actual camera I would bet thats all it is.

I thought they would be monitoring the women's restroom for possible pervs.

Maybe they're doing a statstical analysis on how long people go to the bathroom for in your corporation. :D

He mentioned something about a camera hooked up to a computer and when he fixed it, he could see the bathroom from the outside. It's a camera.
