After she was critical of some stew I made (and am enjoying right now), I told her (before thinking), "next time cook it your dadgum self. . ."

Sigh

My Irish heritage getting me in trouble yet again.

Problem is I was born in the south, her in Cali - and she thinks one shake of a pepper shaker is too much spice. I put up with bland stuff all week, but on weekends I go to town cajun/southern style.

I hate having to cook for people who can't eat flavorful food. But then, I was born to a Cajun and a German.

Unfortunate. Well, at least you could be thankful that she doesn't try to slather everything in ketchup. :frown:

You can find them on this board, putting down mustard and not adding salt to their pasta water, although they are experts on facial moisturizers and fingernail grooming.

Man. I'm from the south too. I love Mexican food and Italian. I couldn't put up with bland food....

Never cook for me then. I eat stuff like plain pizza, plain chocolate ice cream, and spaghetti with Traditional Ragu sauce. I usually can't stand the taste of gourmet or "flavorful" food.
Always caused problems growing up - my mom would make all these complicated type foods (complicated by my standards anyway) and I couldn't stand the taste of them, and always got yelled at. Never got what her big deal was of "oh you have to try" whatever new food it was. I liked a few things, but very much so, so why not just make them? Took a long time, but she finally knows what foods I like, and that I generally don't like most "delicious" things that she comes up with. I think her cooking itself is good. I just have rather....well, bland tastes I guess.

Heh, right before reading this, I was taking a screwdriver and a hammer to my pepper shaker to enlarge the openings.

I miss my family's fresh pepper mill :(
