I was having issues once i started running DC 24/7, where my rig would crash on a warm day while i was out, was driving me insane. Long story short, i fucking lost it today on the bus while i was on my way home when i realized that i had crashed out for the 3rd time this week, and i finally installed my CPU water loop (a thread i will post tomorrow when im not half asleep). when i pulled my megahalems, the TX-2 paste that i used last time i mounted my cooler was completely dried out. it's strange to boot, because while im 100% certain it was my CPU overheating (i run a temp tracker), i could never get it to overheat while i was home ever, unless i was sleeping of course go figure, but i have my thermal reboot set to 80c, and it went up to that multiple times. never saw it go above 70c while i was around it, but i was determined to fix it. pulled the megahalems, and the TIM i had used literally flaked off. anyone else had any issues with Tuniq's compound doing this? TX-2 is supposed to be pretty good (using arctic cooling MX3 on this mount), i wouldnt have expected it to dry out like that after only a year

That's very strange. I have been using TX-2 on my E6400, Q6600 and now i7 860 and none of the systems have experienced what you described. Thanks for sharing your experience faxon. I will be on the lookout for dried out TX-2 in case I experience similar symptoms.

i have been wondering if it's partially due to high ambient temperatures in here as well. it's like 85 degrees in here right now (i just got up) and it's probably gonna start getting hotter. cpu is hovering between 45c and 60c now though at load (running seti), so i doubt im gonna have any more overheating issues now :D

I also use Tuniq TX-2, and noticed they were a little thicker than other TIMs I've used, and it actually crossed my mind for some reason or another if they somehow harden. Mine is just recently applied to two PCs, I guess I'll see a year from now if they suffer the same fate as yours, especially since I also have particularly high ambients on one of my machines. If it happens on the machine enduring the higher ambient (the other one is always in an airconditioned room), then I guess it would more or less be quite similar to your experience.
