I think she said she tried pumping it up to no avail. Am I going to need to take the wheel off and go to some shop?

The tire might be fine, but the rim might be bent. This happened to me when I was first learning how to drive and hit a curb.

When I hit a curb, the tire went out of shape and I bent the rim.

I needed to replace both.....very costly

My wife ran over something(Yes, "something", she had "no idea" what it was) I think it was the curb, blew the tire and dented the wheel. Had to buy four new wheels becuase no one could fix the dented aluminum wheel and it was beyond balancing. If the rim is dented enough, you will never get it blown up.

You probably just broke the seal around the tire. Take the tire off of the car and got to your local tire shop and have them put it back on.

You need a new tire.
if you hit a curb, you ripped the sidewall and the tire is not fixable.
this happened to me going 5 km/h or less... i needed to replace the g0d dasm tire. :disgust:

If the wheel and tire are in good condition, but you broke the seal, I can tell you how to fix it. It's actually pretty easy to do.

Here's what you need:
A piece of rope
Big screwdriver or other metal pole, ~1-1.5 feet long
Air tank with a good bit of pressure; about 100 pounds or so

Either jack up the car, or pull it and work it elsewhere. Once the weight is off the tire, tie the rope around it as tight as you can with a secure knot. THen use the screwdriver to tiwst it so that the center of the circumfrance has a significan't bow to it. Wiggle it around to help it seat a little better. Then with as much pressure as you can get, inflate the tire until it holds air without leaking(should only take a short blast) You ay need to wiggle it more at this point. If you can't get it to go on, try tightening a little more and wiggling some more and repeat inflation stuff. Ho[efully that will do it for you. I've done it a few times and it worked quite well with a little persistance.

Edit: I've done this on two different trailers, a hand-truck, and even the tire off of a suburban.
