so my cd tray won't eject, just makes the clicking sound. I opened it up, fussed with the tray that the laser was on and it finally ejected. Then I went to close everything back up assuming it would work again (like 12 screws later) and again it doesn't open :(

Easy way to fix it?

It's not hard at all to fix trust me. What you basically have to do is take the casing off you do that by taking the rubber/plastic feet off the bottom and taking the 8 screws out (remember where the long and short ones go). Then remove the casing carefully (Power button wire is easily removable, make sure you don't rip it up or something). Anyways then take the dvdrom cover off by unscrewing the 4 tiny screws. The dvd drive gets jambed usually behind the laser the way to correct this is take out the tray and reinsert it all the way to the back of the sliding path. That should do it for you. Check out the afterhours forums for any other assistence there's a ton of info on anything you need to know about ps2s. Good luck.

bump, any more advice? I know how to open up the PS2. I did last night and closed it back up thinking it would work as per my original post.

Write this down:

1) unplug it from the wall (very important as you don't want to keep a charge on it)
2) pick it up
3) carry it approximately 4 feet from the ground into your kitchen area
4) open the nearest canister
5) drop it in
6) take the canister to the curb

Hope this helps fix it

So find a frickin phone number and call Sony. It's their product, they'll know what to do with it. Stop wasting your time on these forums with answers that don't help.

So you want me to waste my time on the phone with sony so that they can tell me "is it plugged in? Are you sure?"

It's a common problem, I just don't recall what the solution is. And it involves opening up the PS2 which Sony would never tell me to do. So stfu and get out of my thread.

If it's a common problem, call them and find out what the solution is. You originally posted this ten hours ago. Now, unless you plan on spending more than ten hours on the phone, I believe you have wasted time.

Look at it this way. Are you getting any help? Are people flocking to you with viable repair options? No. What's that tell you? You want ME to call for you? I've done that before on these forums because the OP simply wouldn't do it himself and I've consistantly found the answer in less than 5 minutes from someone picking up the phone.

Try it. You may be surprised.

Yeah, like I sat here and constantly refreshed this thread looking for new posts during those 10 hours. it's called a morning bump because I posted it last night.

get off your high horse and STFU Nik, god you are so annoying. This is an off topic forum and he's posting for advice. if you aren't going to help just ignore the damn thread.

if he calls sony they will tell him to send it in along with probably $100 so they can repair it. its obvious he wants to do it himself and not shell out $$ to get it fixed, or else he would not have posted it.

i've taken apart many ps2's but never had that problem. i've had this problem on a stereo before and it had to do with the belt coming off the track (the belt that turns when the tray ejects). i'm not sure exactly how it is on the PS2 though, but i'm sure you will fix it by just tinkering around with it.

or you can buy my modded ps2 i'm selling :D

Doesn't matter what you call me, I'm still right and you'll never know until you call.

yes, i do know thats what they will say, becuase i've called both Sony and MS about problems with my systems becuase I modded both of them myself and have asked them about problems that arose when I did so, and they want you to send it to them and pay them close to $100. so again, stfu unless you are going to make some posts that actually are useful. we all know why you have so many posts on these boards.

OP, I would say just take the tray off and reseat it and try it again. that should fix it. also, try taking the top off and pushing the eject butto while the top is off and see whats not functioning properly.

My method works, if it's just a stuck tray in terms of it making noise when it's trying to go out or in (laser is in the way).

Sure, for modded PS2's. I can understand that. Sony wants some compensation for trying to figure out how you screwed up, sure.

i had this happen on an old PS2 we had, but i don't remember what we did.

i've had it happen on a frickin dvd player i had that was a JVC. they wouldn't fix it because it was out of warranty, or i could pay a repair shop 100 bucks to fix it. no dice, i had a dvd rental stuck inside, and i needed to get the sucker out. taking it apart slowly didn't work to see if i could unjam the stupid drive. i wound up having to take the entire thing apart and slowly pulling the DVD out without scratching it.
