So...my harddrives suddenly stop working....

I disconenct a fan from my computer, and the next time I start it, it says "System Failed CPU test". This has happed in the past, I usually jiggle something or another (once ram, once graphics card, once just a few wires) and it works. This time I basically gave it a little shake and it started working...

and then my harddrives (both of them) stop working. "Harddrive not detected"

So I tested them in another computer...
they just don't ... work.

Sparknotes:
-I disconnected a fan.
-Both harddrives fail.
-What the HELL just happened?

I've had this happen once, when I was having problems with my power supply. You disconnected the fan when the power was on?

Run a DOS (floppy) based hard drive scanner. It'll scan the SMART info and any error logs it stores.

You'll find them on your HD maker's website.

I doubt that both hard disks would fail at the same time, you are using another cable when testing on the other computer?

If the heads are stuck, you can try cooling the drive in the freezor, if you are lucky, they will work long enough to get your data off.

Won't even detect the drive, tried it. It says "make sure the drive is connected"

Of course not =)

Yep.

I tried connecting the drive without the cable (using just the molex) and it didn't spin.

Basically I think the problem is with the circutry to receive power. Is there any way I can get around the molex connector the HD uses and power it another way?
