So my h20 case just became oboslete -AAAAGH!

My one case which I thought would be my lasting h20 case has just been discovered obsolete. Thanks to an i7 Extended ATX mobo I recently bought. It just never occurred to me. So whats left is the worst in both options. An air cooled i7 case that can hold an E-ATX mobo in a hot room and my h20 case that would be used for my 24/7 rig that can only house 1 drive. My intentions were to liquid cool the i7 that 50% of the time would only need 1 drive = game & AVCHD editing machine; with the storage drives being housed in my old 2001 PC-60 case. My options are $$$$ or $

?

Its tragic :brokenheart:

I can either go to MicroCenter and pick up a Q9550 for cheap and keep the thing together or go the i7 Route and end up buying and cutting into a nice expensive case to liquid cool it.

you using a 120x360 rad? HAF932 has space to mount one in the top, and it's only $120 at microcenter. was gonna go that route myself eventually.

I think its a Swiftech MCR 320 (3x120mm fans) I think I'm just gonna have to deal with it on air for now. And luckily I have a 1366 mount for a lapped TRUE that I'm using on this Q9650

What I will end up doing:

The Classified 760 A1 will be in my PC-A20 (but silver in color) Sundial Micro is a GREAT place to shop for cases. They are always cheaper than at new egg! I'll cool it with a lapped TRUE. This case has great airflow, so if my ambients are cool, it'll be all good 🙂

I'll take my current P5Q Premium out of this PC-A20 and use it in my PC-60 for a file storage server (NAS) It'll be way-too powerful but the mobo has alot of bells and whistles. I'd use my old P4T 533 Rambus system but it didn't come with SATA ports back then. I don't even think SATA was even out yet at the time. But, in all, it'll be way overkill for its purpose. I could even sell that Q9650 off and put a low power dualie or quad in it...

As far as my custom h20 cooling rig, maybe by the time the 1156 parts end up cheaper, i'll sell off my UD3R platform, minus the CPU chips, and install an ATX 1156 i5 or i7

Why can this house only one drive? Can you not mount drives in the 5.25" bays with adapters/coolers? I'm not super familiar with your particular system, just throwing ideas out there from a different point of view.

The rig I can only put 1 drive in is my PC Lian Li V1100. I've modified it with a custom h20 kit and the best routing I could think of with my tubing wiped out the entire 5-1/4 bay area. The PSU in the bottom takes up 1 of the 2 fitted HD cages. And about those cages; they are too rigid. They amplify the reading and writing of the heads in a drive. I had a Raptor 150 in the cage and it was obnoxiously loud compared to being in a cage fitted with rubber grommets for the drive and cage mount. So, i took what I had for a cage and fitted it with grommets just for the cage mount and I ended up with a maximum most air flow efficient setup being 1 drive. The modified case is basically obsolete; im sorry, not obsolete, just not suited for what I need right now.

Meh.. but the cooling for it can get messy. :X

Oh BTRY, i never showed u what package i had? i just recomended u the EK, because i feel that is the nicest, however i use a full koolance package.

Nice Package - lol

no but seriously, thats a sweet setup you got there

who's freakin out? im cool, i just am going to have to air cool things for a while until i get up the nerve to cut into my friggin expensive case; until then i'll run things at stock

lol

your rant in the first post was the board being too big because its label'd EATX.

I made a big note that its not really a EATX. My Sammy board is larger if u laid it out side by side, and thats a real EATX.

O yeah, heh. It took me about 2-3 days to figure out what would work. None of my other cases are E-ATX, just my PC-A20 which is not setup to watercool and I when I bought it I told myself I'd never cut into the case and its really hardnot too but I still intend to hold to that... give me strenght, hah. I thought that h20 case I setup would be my i7 home, I mean I was like "yeah that'll work awesome for an i7 rig" WRONG!!! LMAO - its funny and I am able to laugh and joke about it...

Thats' a beauty - looks like a 775 board...

I still have to get my file server up and running... a new psu is the major thing i need for it... i may just get it setup and then unhook the monitor, kb, & mouse (if that works) and just boot it when I need to. It's going in my PC-60 case: the old 2nd Q9650 h20 project case 😛

It can't be a S775 board because it has 6 DIMM slots (unless my eyes are deceiving me).

Which CPU is in it, Aigo?

o yeah, just saw the 3rd orange dimm slot...

my sister in laws twin sister is engaged to marry an assistant to the director of Intel... i think that's correct, if so, i'm going to try an finagle maybe an ES chip of some-sort.. 😀

I think you could be sorted for CPUs, MBs and SSDs for as long as he works for Intel. Care to share the bounty? *** cough cough *** 😀

Edit: See if you can get your hands on two Xeon X7460 ES':

http://www.intel.com/p/en_US/p...eon7000/specifications

Then all you need is the dual slot MB (also from Intel??) and RAM and it will give Aigo's rig a run for its money.

Edit 2: Did I say slot?? I meant socket. My god my internet connection is soooooooooooooo ssssssssssssllllllllllllllllllloooooooooooooowwwwwwwwwwwwwwww tonight. I guess its all those people staying in and streaming porn... erm... movies.

i'll have to restrain my tone so i don't make off like a kid in a candy shop - lol

I think I would be: I would like one of these and one of these and one of these.....etc.

How does it work with engineering samples of CPUs? (And can you get ES versions of MBs and SSDs??)

Do Intel give them out for free or do you have to pay for them? If they're free, do you have to return them after a set duration (I know you have to agree to a NDA)?

I'm just curious how it works. Presumably Intel must keep a record of who gets what, so they can sue your arse if you sell the ES on or break the NDA.

Any ideas, BTRY
