His wife is short and can fit on the treadmill while its in the basement easily. He on the other hand, is a bit taller. He can fit and there's even enough room to bounce up and down...but he has to position it just right so that his head goes between two of the rafters. But he still occasionally bonks his head on the rafters...so he wears a bicycle helmet while he runs on the treadmill.

He is a genius.

I always wonder why people don't just run outdoors. Or they spend an hour on the exercise bike at the gym staring at the window when they can just bike to work, save gas and enjoy the outdoors. But then again I live in sunny CA.

Seriously. I would pay $5 bucks to see a several minute long video with at least 4 bonks of his helmet on the ceiling. I'm sure others would too. Dude, you could make some $$ on this thing.

A lot of older houses have shallow basements. I've seen quite a few in my house-hunt and it's one of the most annoying things. I mean come on....you dug down 6 feet! Did you get tired and give up? You couldn't have gone another foot or two?

I have the same cituation, but I have a drop ceiling. What I do is remove a ceiling tile, and my head bounces up through that....

I guess it would kinda suck getting to work all sweaty and stinky.

Very few places have good climate year round. In the midwest there's about 3 months of good weather :p

The rest of the time it's either freezing cold or blazing hot with wiltering amounts of humidity.

If I remember, when I see him at work next week I will ask him about a film of him running on the treadmill. He might be up for it.

I prefer the exercise bike or swimming myself. If I relied on running outside, I might be able to keep it up for a few months in the fall, but when winter came and the road got icy and the weather freezing I would just give up. The bike is always there, its lower impact and I can watch TV while I ride it.

I don't like treadmills because they take up a lot of space, you can fall of them and they have the same impact as running. Plus they're more expensive and I couldn't afford one if I wanted one.

As for riding on the way to work...it takes extra time in the morning so I'd have to get up earlier, I don't like riding a bike on our narrow roads because I think its dangerous and I'd have to bring extra clothes. Plus, I'd probably stink when I finally got there. Its a 25 minute drive to work, I can only assume it'd be at least an hour if not more of travel....if I'm not going to use my car, WTF do I own it for? I also commute to a second job in the afternoon, so thats even more travel time...I wouldn't home until like 7:30.

Yeah, I love to be nice and sweaty when I get to work.
