So my friend always tells me that excuses are lies

So if your friend accidentally overslept and missed a final exam, telling the prof that he overslept (his excuse for missing the test) would be a lie?

Ah, but that's a REASON. There's a difference between an excuse and a reason imho. 😉
 
It's only a reason if the person accepts it as such. Otherwise, it might as well be an excuse.

Kick him in the nuts. When he crumples, shout "So THAT'S your excuse for falling over!" Then ask him if he's lying. 😛
