I recall seeing that chain letter a few years ago, so at best, the receipt is photoshopped in that regard.

go ahead and apply, you don't have to be dirt poor to get food stamps - the worst that can happen is you won't get approved

I guess you don't know anything about whats going on in this country or how food stamps came to be.

Originally the proposal for food stamps only included basic items like rice, pasta, cooking oils, etc. However, big agriculture lobbied hard, and threatened to oppose food stamps. They cried that with poor people only able to buy low profit items (of course they didn't put it that way) that they would lose business since people would subsitute food stamp foods for what they were currently buying.

Every time someone makes the suggestion to limit what people can buy on food stamps, big agriculture screams bloody murder.

Search the web and you will see plenty of proposals for just a set of basic foods for food stamps.

What the fuck does "big agriculture" have to do with lobster??

how is it wrong? first off, you can't do it all the time because it's too expensive to do. also, the reason why people are often on food stamps is because they work too much. they get shitty dead-end jobs to support their kids and not enough time and energy to cook or clean because of how much they need to work to make ends meet. they're getting nickeled and dimed.

According to your logic, people should be able to use food stamps to dine at four-star restaurants.

Think about that.

The problems is people shouldn't be given food stamps in the first place.

Give them a bologna sandwich and a pack of ramen noodles and call it a day.

My sister's sister in law gets $900/month in food stamps, which she sells to buy pot. She also lives in government assisted housing. She gets a free cell phone from the government. This woman is also on welfare. She hasn't worked for as long as my sister has known her, recently bought a 42" LCD TV, she has two kids.

Gotta love the entitlement mentality and a government that rewards that mentality.

you related to your 'anecdotes'?

I am not proud of it and believe me I make sure my sister hears an ear full about her actions every time she feels entitled to one of the many 'programs' or 'schemes' she is into...

but then i will owe people something and i don't like owing people something

Given the likelihood of infant mortality prior to modern society I think it's fair to say that you already owe society your very existence; The bit of help with food costs is there to help you help yourself up, so if you do just that with the assistance then I think advancing in the world and providing greater service to society is thanks enough... It helps that it is likely to be associated with a higher pay check, which society will then also take its "thanks" out of.

Food stamp abuse has always been going on in one way or another. It really should have a checks and balances system to ensure that it is not being abused. 10 years ago I worked for a Spartan based grocery store in the northern metro Detroit area. We would help the customers out to their cars with their groceries. Some of the people who had food stamps (before they switched to the bridge card) would load up on questionable items such as 50 lb containers of Bulgarian cheese, 20-30 2 liters of Coke or Pepsi depending what was on sale, etc. which would go in their BMW, Mercedes Benz, etc. We damned well knew the items were going to be resold at party stores, but no one at the store truly made an effort to stop it.

Many children are dependent on food stamps and other nutrition programs.

Children who are raised on a poor diet often have poor mental/physical development and can end up socially handicapped like you.

Make all cards scan electronically, and just like health saving accounts attach limits to what can be had.

Won't happen because Al Sharpton will come to the rescue, along with the usual suspects.

What if they don't get mailed their cards in time?
