Actually I just bought all the parts from him....Any deficiences in the system beyond the Videocard (that and he insisted on a 80 gig hd even if it wasn't ATA133 and had a slower seek time....)

VGA ATI OEM|RADEON 9000 PRO 64M DDR 1 $86.00

Self Explanatory...originally it was a 67 dollar Radeon9k, but I knew that was going to be WAY to big of a bottleneck so I decided to ease up just a little and stick a higher end videocard (I insisted on a Radeon b/c I knew the 9000/Pro pretty much chews up the G4MX seires and I'm using his as a guiney pig for my pc I'm making in January). And this time I went for the underdog in GAMING VIDEOCARDS (in reality though ATI is huge in the OEM market b/c they handle nrealy all huge business orders and slap in some kind of Rage)

DDRRAM 512MB|PC2700 ACI DDR333 % 1 $132.00

Self Explanatory.

HD 80GB|SAMSUNG 7200/ATA100 SP8004H 1 $94.00
It ha da 8.9 MS Seek Time, however it received a lot of positive reviews from Newegg

MB AMDIKT333|EP-8K5A2+ EPOX RET 1 $109.00

The Epox 8K5A2+. Comes with onboard sound, lan, and raid [which he won't use]. I got it b/c It was reccomended by YOU guys

CPU FAN AMD|1.5DBB VOLCANO 6Cu RT 1 $11.00

Cooling fan. 6 Cu Volcano good up to a 2100XP

FAN COOLINGFAN SPEEZE FD08025S1M4 1 $3.00
Cooling fan for the PC

FD 1.44MB|ALPS #DF354H121F BLACK 1 $13.50

Generic Floppy. You'll notice a LOT of the parts cost more than average and that is due to his insistance of Black only parts (he wants a sleek looking computer :p )

THERMAL GREASE|ANTEC 77064 1 $2.50

Self Explanatory again

MODEM ENCORE|NDRG ENF656-PCI-NDPR R 1 $10.00

I was trying to keep the price Sub 1.1k (which I did....) and this actually got pretty good reviews for a winmodem (however, I would've prefered a hardware modem, but then again I've been using linux for a month)

CPU AMD|1900+/266 ATHLON 1.6G XP % 1 $84.00

It was originally a Retail 1800XP, but we both decided on a OEM 1900XP for the same price

DVD|LITE ON 16X LTD165 no VR BLACK 1 $44.00
CDRW40X12X48|LITE ON LTR40125BLACK 1 $54.99

Both self explanatory

CASE EVERCASE|P4ATXMD300W E4252BEFA 1 $37.99

Evercase (reccomended by you) + 300 WATT powersupply made by Antec

MNTR NEC|17" CRT AS70-BK RTL 1 $133.00

Nec/Mitsubishi 17 inch moniter

so, good bad ugly? The mouse and keyboard are out of stock and we are ordering ASAP, and the printer/speakers are bought elsewhere.

Any mistake, huge glaring deficiency...ah well too late since i orderd it already :p

Is it a good system for the buck excluding the obvious price increase because he inisisted on everything black (my plan is to get a case that looks all trashed up but is the pimp on the inside...they'll see it and be like "What mofo! That is so old it has a Turbo Button" and they'll watch me Play BF1942 at Max Settings :) )

So, Rating? I order only from Newegg b/c I am 60 miles away from them and I ordered this at 10PM yesterday...it was shipped at 2 today and I excpet it at 6 at the latest tomorrow

Thanks!

I would've gotten Arctic Silver II or III. :)
Regular thermal grease should be fine; ASIII is for maximum thermal transfer performance when overclocking.:D

And the cooling fan - FD08025S1M4
Generally "S" in a part number indicates Sleeve bearing, which tend not to last as long as ball bearing fans, but there are exceptions to this.
Ok, I just found the fan, yes, sleeve bearing. Your experience with it may vary, but in mine, sleeve bearing fans may last years, or they may last months. When they do start to go, they start to make a "groaning" sound as they slow down and eventually stop completely. I've never had that happen with a ball bearing fan. I used to get case fans from Bestbyte - they've got them or $3 each, and they're ball bearing. (I said "used to get" because I've enough case fans now, as I bought a big case from a surplus company awhile back. :D)
I'm obsessive enough about sleeve bearing fans that I always open up new PSU's and check the fan and replace it if it is sleeve bearing. I just did that on a 4 year old system - its power supply fan was making some horrible growling and squealing noises; sleeve bearing of course. It runs silent now, thanks to one of the ball bearing NMB-brand fans I had.

That Volcano fan is going to drive your brother crazy in less than a week. Horrible cooling choice for sure, everything else looks top notch. Not joking about the cooling though, you'll soon find out yourself why I say it's a bad choice. AX-7 and a Panasonic Panaflow or Antec Stealth fan is your best bet.

Yeah or that to, the retail hsf is bareable and it'll save you a few bucks on cooling.

the volcano isn't that bad, and it might even be bearable. personally, i would have gotten an alpha 8045 and a nice panaflo for that cpu, but, after the 1000@1400 T-Bird @1.85volts i used to have (i used an sk-6 and a 7000 rpm delta) i value a little quiet more than most :).

Uh oh...

I got the CPU fan b/c the majority of the reviews said it was pretty quiet....hehehe

As for the Radeon 8500, I couldn't remember if the LE was a more limited version of the radeon (like Geforce2GTS-V which i own) or if it was a setp above the 8500.

Besides, I told him about that, and he was like "8500 when tehre is a 9000! NO!"

I just looked and smirked.

Same deal with the 1900XP. It was his call, and in reality I would have prolly bought a 1600XP and bump it up that high :p
