So i recently upgraded to a new rig (in sig) but since i was still using my trusty 17" Samsung LCD i did not got a new video card.

I have inside information on a gift i will be receiving (a $300 dollar Best Buy GC) so i am hoping to get a 22" LCD (samsung of course)

Max resolution is 1600x1024 or something (standard widescreen) so i want to play all my games to the max..i think my rig justifies a good Video card.

1. i do not upgrade once a year
2. cost is important, but since the monitor is "free" i can spend around 250 on a card
3. Noise factor is important, the more silent the better
4. Nvidia ONLY (preferably top brand names like evga, xfx, bfg, ect.)
5. Physical card lenght. with the two hard drive that i have now i have exactly 10" FLUSH available,. if i move around and play with the positioning i can get 11" MAX from tip to tip available, i am not sure where the power connector is on new cards so i MAY need space for that as well so this is CRITICAL!!!!!

I want to get a card that will last like my 7800gt has until now, i play FPS mostly with occasional sports, rts and racing games...

i have read some threads and sounds like the 9800GTX is very noisy, the GTS512 G92 is very close but its hard to pass up a new card over an older one

Whats the best scenario for me and my rig ? THANKS everyone

The GTS 512 G92 is basically a 9800GTX, so if you were holding back because you thought it was older tech, I'd say don't.

I suggest you go for 8800 GTS 512 MB, make sure your PSU and the case is compatible. This card is 9"+ long and requires a 6 Pin PCIe connector

Happy BDay btw :gift:

thanks but i think its bad luck to say happy bday before it actualyl happens - so no thanks :-(

hehe but if its 9 to 9.5 inches that would fit perfectly, and yes my new PSU is compatible im sure, cause i am using a 6 pin right now for my 7800gt which also looks like its aroun 7.5 or 8" long i cant remember

i also like the idea of that cooler that vent hot air outside of the case...i found a BFG GTS512 http://www.canadacomputers.com...016621&cid=999.243.390

limited supply should i go for it ?

Your best bet is the 8800GTS 512MB, the 9800GTX is too long (10+ inches) and $50 over your price limit (and the only benefit over the GTS is 0.8ns memory).

I guess you could also go with a 8800GT, oc it heavily and keep the rest of the money so you can get a better card later this year, the 9800GTX is not a big jump from the 8800GTS 512 which in turn is not a big jump from the 8800GT, when you factor in overclocking, the only one that really pulls ahead is the 9800GTX with it's 0.8ns memory.

I noticed you want a Samsung lcd. Unfortunately Best Buy doesn't carry the newest 22 inch model yet the 2253BW, they have the 2232BW and 226CW. Both have horrible input lag. Unless you can use that gift card on the best buy for business website where they do have the 2253BW you might want to try out one of the LG lcds BB has.

My friend bought the 9800 GTX XFX and in the start it was kindda dull we overclocked it and hell it rocks like a boat. We are getting a stable 88-90 temp on 100% load.

Overclocked:
Core 722Mhz (At 725Mhz we got a BSOD)
Shaders 176xMhz (x because i dont recall)

We did not touch the memory speed as it was quite high as it is....!!!

BTW why only Nvidia why not ATI?? 3870 X2 and soon to come Asus 3850 X3 "If it gets launched" will be quite a match for any game that is not under Nvidia supervison aka The Way It's Meant To Be Played.

I suggest a 8800GT or 8800GTS 512. The GTS is a bit faster and it should be cooler thanks to its dual slot cooler.

I noticed that you're Canadian. Why not purchase from NCIX?

NCIX BFG 8800GTS 512

It's basically the same card as Canada Computers but it's $10 cheaper and you only pay GST if you live in Ontario. Shipping is $8.80 express shipping.

NCIX EVGA 8800GT Superclocked

The 8800GT is already factory overclocked, and it's only $190 after rebate. Ground shipping is free, and once again you pay only GST.

Wow guys excellent points made here and thats why i come to this site to research anything and learn something new

The LCD: yes you are precisely correct j0j081, BB does not carry that one yet, i have read a lot about that LCD but unfortunately i think the 2232BW is the best choice there... LG ? hhmmm gotta read up on those ones - Which LG LCD from BB would you suggest (22" about 300 in price give or take)

A GT: I have thought for sometime to save like 40 or so dollars ( i cant find it for less that 170 ~ 180) but i thikn the dual cooler is worth the money on the GTS

of and no i cannot buy on NCIX or anywhere online, credit card problems, so Cash is King

BTW i like Samsung and Nvidia because i had those brands for ever and learned to trust them since they never broke down on me, the computer i had ages ago which my mom still uses has a 64MB GeForce 2 in it which still functions perfectly :) thanks for the responses

BUT it was an open box return from RMA repair... i was upset cause they did not have another one... so the guy said he can transfer stock from another location,, so i back ordered it from another city's location....should be here within 3 business days or SO

Very excited, time to go pick a monitor!!!!!!!
