So my apartment caught on fire last night... *pics*

I'll make this as quick as possible. Last night, my wife and her cousin were cooking up some dinner and put some breadsticks in the oven. (We just moved into this place a little over a week ago so this was the first time using the oven). Well about 5 mins later they started yelling about a fire in the oven; being female I figured they had a flare (no put intended) for the drama and went to inspect. Well the bottom of the oven was spitting out flames and we weren't sure wtf was on fire since there shouldn't have been anything in the broiler. Since we didn't know the cause of the fire we were hesitant to open the door (we have a gas stove/electric oven) and didn't know if we would make the situation worse. Anyways, called 911, they sent 3 firetrucks and an ambulance, tore out the stove, put out the fire and now everything is okey dokey 🙂 Just smells like shitt in here. Apparently what happened was my mother-in-law had placed a few dish rags and aprons in the bottom part of the oven where you usually store pots and pans...Thank god for renter's insurance, we'll need to replace a couple cabinets and the stove.

Cliff notes:

Apartment caught fire.
Firemen put it out.
Mother-in-law's fault 😛

why the fvk would she put a towel (cloth) in a oven?

in that bottom part...like the drawer. apparently in the older models you could do that or something. i don't know, this is why i stay away from the kitchen.

And you thought life would be better when you moved from MS. 😀

😀 even with stuff like this it's 234234 times better than MS 🙂

I don't know what had posessed you to move here in the first place. Glad you're enjoying the new locale...as long as you can keep it from going up in flames, that is! 😀

You don't even have a basic fire extinguisher handy?

Seems if you did it wouldn't have been too hard to have put it out yourself before it got worse.

I suggest buying one and making sure everyone knows how to use it and where it is kept.

yes that became quickly apparent about 4 seconds after i saw the flames. we've already purchased one 🙂

If I ever have an emergency I am glad to know that help will get there fast. Not so much because there is a hospital or Fire station near me. But because I live near a nursing home and those suckers are either dropping like flies or they have some slippery floors. We get about 1 firetruck a night going in that place.

You know why they don't open the doors when an airplane crashes and is up in flames?

Glad to hear everything is pretty much ok, it could have been far worse. Not surprised to see typical female lack of common sense was to blame 😉
