Don't you have to be part of a college/uni

Because some colleges and high schools don't have school email addresses, they've opened facebook up to everyone.

I'm sure that's the reason. :p

That's why I supported it, at least. Heh. :p

lol, why? is she tech savvy??

Why? God only knows. A cousin of hers (a college professor) e-mailed her the following:

I wanted to let you know that now everyone can join Facebook, even if you couldn't before. You can use Facebook to see the profiles of the people around you, share photos, and connect with friends.

So she then passed the question along my way. She is relatively tech savvy. She's an avid e-mailer and web surfer. Nice new PC for whatever it's worth...

Anyone can join, but you have to be invited by someone who already is a member..

I think she is old enough to do what she wants. ;)

Myt dad is 74 years old and has been on the internet for almost 7 years. I am sometimes amazed at the places he visits.

The e-mail I quoted from contained the invitation link.

People like to make a big fuss about myspace because it's full of emo kids and never works.

My 76 year old mother is on the web, has her own website and participates in numerous forums and chats.

It's a great social connection tool for seniors.

That's an interesting point, never really thought about that. Consider my no a yes. Just don't let her go phishing.

Be sure to monitor her internet usage at all times, or she may be taken advantage of by a much, much older gentleman.

Just wanted to thank everyone for their opinions. I presented opinions in this thread to my grandmother via phone, emphasizing that several individuals here had offered to be online chat buddies with her. She politely recanted any and all interest in Facebook. Thank you, ATOT!
