So much for the Death of PC gaming

Oh? Is it that time of the month again? Another thread to discuss the downfall/potential downfall/so much for the downfall of the PC Gaming industry!

Yes, it seems like Steam is a forerunner in pushing sales up by offering some rather crazy deals... however, Publishers/Steam need to sort out the UK/EU pricing issues before it's any good for mainstream releases (Retribution $30 US Vs. $45ish UK $50ish EU)

Well it seems things are just more expensive in Europe unfortunately, games, cars, gas, gadgets like smartphones and tablets... It probably has more to do with their government than Steam.

Not here to try to start another one of those pc vs console thread actually. I just happened to be reading Gamespy and saw the article, and found the result to coincide with my change of game buying habit and thought I'd share.

No, that isn't it. Its cheaper for me to buy from steam than it is for people in EU/UK. Yes, here in Namibia where I have to pay $110 p/m for a 768kbps ADSL connection. That just shouldn't happen, not that I'm complaining. 😛

As has been mentioned, every month, PC gaming was never dying. Console companies just advertise more, and engage in stealth marketing.

This has also been mentioned before but in 2010 console gaming sales fell 29% in the US, while most categories of PC gaming continue to increase sales. http://hackmywii.net/consumer-spending-on-video-games-reached-25-billion-this-year

Steam keeps growing by huge margins.

All the current consoles are old outdated junk, and they should have started coming out with something new by now. So if anything, console gaming is the one that's dying.

I never really worried.

It's a matter of FREEDOM. Consoles give you very little/if any freedom. Matter of time before the secret is out.

And it's cheaper for people in the UK to buy from anywhere but Steam. It's even cheaper to buy console games than it is to buy from Steam.

You are a lifer and you post this?

Anyway I've been hearing about PC gaming in the decline or dying in the past few years. Even though I own all 3 major consoles (Wii first, then PS3, finally X360/Kinect), I still consider myself a PC gamer because that's where I spend most of my gaming time at. It's good to see that actual statistics is telling the truth that PC gaming is again growing. I hope the growth would give us more PC exclusives and less half-@ss console ports, and that console fanboys would finally drop the "PC gaming is dead/dying" bs.

I've never been worried about PC game dying from lack of sales. I just think the games suck. In other words, I take increased sales of these games as bad news.

Their hardware is certainly outdated, but saying the console format is dying is utter stupidity. What's funny is that even weaker hardware platforms than either the xbox or the ps3 are a major source of growth in the gaming industry.

There are a lot of games that suck, but there are still a lot of decent games, and at 50-75% off the normal price during sales they are no-brainers. It is the same for all gaming consoles, lots of crappy games with few great games in between, and Wii games being the biggest offender.

Yes it's silly to think console is dying or PC gaming is dying. I surely don't hope new console hardware be released soon either, because that means my current console systems won't be able to play newer games. The hardware may be outdated but the games aren't yet. Super Mario Bros Wii is still very enjoyable, GT5 looks great and is a lot of fun, Kinect Dance Central is really cool.

Is this source - The PC Gaming Alliance - at all credible? Where are they pulling these figures? Steam, to my knowledge, still doesn't post any sales figures so from where are they hatching these numbers?

I hear the game is insanely difficult. Not exactly a trait I'd relate with the vast majority of 360 gamers enjoying. In other words, I'm not surprised.
Yea, that was my thought to, but it's still nice to see PC come out on top for once.
