OP Start using one of these and you will never have to deal with the drain plug.

1. They don't get all the oil out.
2. They won't get any sediment out if very little.

Those vacs are great for lawn mowers. They are great at needing to partially empty or do a very quick and not done right Transmission oil change, but I'd never use one to change oil on a vehicle unless I had no other option... For the OP, if he was unable to get the drain plug out and didn't want to fix that, then yes, an oil vac would be a solution, but these tend to be a bit pricey for a decent one vs the cost of a bolt extractor and new plug no?

I have one I use for my lawn equipment. Love it for that.

I now have over 175k+ of miles on three of these drain valves. No issues.

Back in the 80's or 90's there were some versions of these that were known for failures. No such issue with the Fumotos.
Always been on the fence with picking these up. Maybe I should finally cave in after 14 years of oil changes the old way?

Meh, as long as you do your own oil changes and torque the drain bolt yourself, you won't have to worry about what the OP went through. And you don't really save much (if any) time.

Probably a 50 dollar special plug with an rfid chip read by the oil pan sensors that requires a special tool to remove and a special computer reset that is not ODB II standard command but requires a licensed system and one time fee per use.

Or is that BMW?
