So Michigan has these new Nike Jerseys

I've read in three different places that Nike has produced a new jersey for the Michigan Wolverine football team. The change wasn't a design one (even though there are a few differences between the old design and the new one), but the new jersey is made out of a different material which weighs less.

Now, why is Michigan getting all this coverage? Is Nike only making these jerseys for Michigan? And if not, why aren't other teams getting new jerseys?

Are Michigan's jerseys that old that they require a material change or is Michigan one step ahead of the game?

FVCK MICHIGAN. I would buy one of those jerseys just to burn it, as I did to a Michigan shift that I got for 99 cents.

Go Bucks :)

I'm wondering about the jerseys because I want to see if Ohio State already has them.

yeah, the logical assumption would be that Michigan apparel is the highest selling, which isn't too much of a stretch...someone go google some numbers for us

Well the fact that they sell out the largest college football stadium for every home game indicates there's a lot of fans - and a large potential market for merchandise.

The home jersey looks exactly the same - I'll have to check out the new material in person to see if I like it any better. Don't really need two of them anyway :)

BTW, the reason this is news (in Michigan) is because of the piping around the number on the road jersey.

That, plus the fact that their jerseys are widely regarded as one of the best jerseys in North American sports and it is rarely changed.

The truth is it ISN'T that big of a deal around the country. Both of your links are to Detroit newspapers. Local news.

No, it was in this weeks Sporting News and I'm pretty sure I read it on ProFootballTalk.com, both which I consider to be national sources.

And is Michigan really the highest marketed team? I would have thought Miami, Oklahoma or Nebraska would be the top contenders. Ohio State and Michigan following closely behind.
