So, mice go bad by having the cursor move around

My Microsoft Intellimouse (optical) seems to have gone bad.

The mouse cursor just moves around the screen a little by itself.

I googled on this and found:

- a guy saying cleaning the mousepad and using a q-tip on the mouse sensor will fix it.

Surprisingly, it seems it did fore a couple minutes. That's all.

- Lots of talk about checking for spyware and changing drivers and reinstalling things.

The bottom line was a suggestion to boot in safe mode and see if the problem still happens.

I agree and did that. It wasn't easy to start in safe mode. Pressing f8, holding f8, wouldn't. Finally a hard power shutoff got it to do it.

And the problem still happens.

It's not the first time this has happened with this model of mouse.

My recollection is, I found the mouse is bad and replaced it.

I'm surprised I didn't see any of the threads I found suggest that.

Luckily, I have other mice I bought, next step, try another.

The image sensors are like the sensors on your digital camera, eventually they form hotspots and go bad.
