So many stickies in ATOT

There are two that only network admins really need to worry about, two for LANs/meetups, and some other random stuff. Anything that can be done about this? For those without Dell2001FPs, it's taking up a lot of screen space.

The best thing about the forum upgrades is that there were no stickies in ATOT for a few days. I don't giuve a crap about the latest virus scare or some people playing video games in Intercourse, PA. Neither do most other people, like Phasmatis here.

Those Lan Meetups are just that. A great chance to meet fellow ATers, many have done so that way.

Virus and patch warnings are necessary in areas highly concentrated with Windows users.

I think next time we see those JRUN errors the admins should try disabling OT. Maybe that would fix things.

If someone is dumb enough to miss virus/windows patch warnings because they didn't read it on AT, they deserve what they get. Networking thread for the unemployed I can *almost* see as necessary to sticky. The whole of OT does not care about a LAN party. In fact, a small fraction of a percent of OT actually care -and much fewer are actually going to attend. Birthday threads are always posted in OT -why is Minendo's any more special? Is it because of the AT meet also listed in the thread? Again, same logic as LAN parties applies. The vast majority of OT doesn't give a flying four letter word for copulation. Virus definitions and buffer overruns are things that people should be actively patching / updating ANYWAY, regardless of what's stickified at the top of OT, wasting away space. The adds along the top are already needlessly whoring away functional space. Must we whore away another third of the page to this crap? I click on Off Topic and I have to scroll down before I begin to find any of the content that I come to OT for. Seriously. This is ridiculous.

How about just condensing the threads so the OTers don't get freaked out? Maybe one thread with the meets/LAN parties, one thread for security notifications (because not everyone gets email from Microsoft about new patches 😉), etc.

Pretty much everyone has to deal with scrolling, I'm not sure what makes OT any different.

you people have anything better to do in life then whine like little girls? one of those lan party threads will be gone this week, the others soon enough. when will you realize that just because YOU don't want it there doesn't mean it's going to go away? if a few stickies bothers you i suggest trying the everyonelistentomewhinelikeastupidlittlegirl.com forums.

compared to the crap most of you post in OT it's a surprise they haven't just killed it off, altho it does tend to keep all the pollution out of the main stream that is AT.

and that networking job thread should go first. if you can't get a job on your own some dude whining about bush isn't going to help you. try the CLASSIFIED ADS.

You should try and go to one to at least meet some of your AT comrads in person. You don't have to bring a game machine.

It's called "Fellowship", something this Country needs to get back to and a lot more of it.

None are near me- and that's the thing. The stickies address a very small portion of the people actually on ATOT. For the people like me who are nowhere near any of these LANs, it's just zeroes to the left.

I think they're a nice deterrant for people already pissed off coming to OT looking for a flame war... gives them time to cool off while they scroll down to the most recent thread 🙂

If a thread is really popular, it will stay on the top itself. I've seen too many threads that get 20 posts in an hour suddenly die because it's stickied. The fact is that people scan quickly over the stickies and get on to the real threads. If stickies were used much more sparingly, I think they would be much more effective.

I'm not disputing that LAN parties are great ways to meet AT'ers. However, I think that since each one only applies to a certain very small subset of the ATOT population, those groups of people should be the ones to get people interested and make sure the thread is active enough to stay near the top.

fortunately the mods are wise and don't agree with your shortsighted opinion of what should be stickied. if you'd rather people boost their post count by bumping lan threads every 30 minutes i guess that'd be an alternative...

on a side note, hope karsten's lan was great. missed it again, hopefully the next one won't be on such a busy weekend!

ATOT is nothing compared to Hot Deals.

I'm just waiting to see when AnandTech Deals decides that OT could use some of those superb deals.
