So many different Radeons...help

A friend wants a VIVO card and I've been looking at ATI. There is the 'original' Radeon 64MB-DDR VIVO and the All-in-Wonder Radeon 32MB, both going for around $160 (with shipping), then there is the new Radeon 7500 All-In-Wonder 64MB that is also going for around $160 (with shipping).

Is it just me, or does it seem crazy not to get the Radeon 7500 AIW since its the same price?? If so, please confirm. If not, please explain.

Is the Radeon 7500 actually a newer GPU like the 8500, or is it just a rehash of the original Radeon (e.g. different core/mem clock speeds)? How does the 7500 stack up to the original Radeon in terms of gaming performance?

The 7500 AIW should perform the same as the original Radeon. It's the
same chip. For the same money, get the newer 7500. You sure you need
the video-in? The 8500 retail has video out and is at the same price-point.
Add an ATI PCI video-capture card and you're still way under an 8500 AIW
with greater performance.

Shouldn't the AIW 7500 perform better than the original Radeon?

From a review:

"As you can see from the above screen shot, the All-In-Wonder 7500 runs at 258.75 core speed. This is just a bit below the 275Mhz core of the Radeon 8500 and it was very easy to overclock the core to 8500 level. The big difference between the 7500 and 8500 is memory speed. The DDR memory used by the All-In-Wonder 7500 runs at 180Mhz. This is well short of the 275Mhz DDR memory used by the Radeon 8500. I was able to overclock the All-In-Wonder 7500 memory to 200Mhz before artifacts started showing up."

The clock speed of the original Radeon is 166 for the core and 166 for the memory. Not sure what it can be overclocked to.

For the 7500 AIW it is 258 for the core and can be overclocked to the 275 level of the 8500. The memory clock of the 7500 AIW is 180 and can be clocked to 200.

The 7500 also has a .15 micron manufacturing process while the original Radeon is .18.

I also believe the bandwidth and fill rates are higher for the 7500 than the original Radeon.

Also the 7500 AIW has that great TIVO-like feature that lets your schedule and record TV programs to your hard drive. That is an amazing feature for the price when you look at what TIVO's go for. And no monthly fee either. That alone makes it worth getting over a capture card.

I higly recomend this site because it lists all the reviews from all over the net.
tcsenter- get the Radeon 7500 AIW, it is much better than Radeon DDR VIVO and the original AIW Radeon period.

The 64mb VIVO was a good deal quicker than the 32mb AIW tested in the
THG review you cite. Probably about the same as the 7500 AIW. What I said!

Whatever, the recommmendation of R8500 retail + TV capture card stands!

No! The radeon 7500 AIW is definately quicker than the original radeon.

All the Radeon 7xxx (including the original Radeon) support the same feature set on the GPU (full DX7 and partial DX8 support in hardware) Radeon 8xxx GPU features full DX8.1 support in hardware.

I have 2 original AIW Radeon's, a Radeon 64 DDR SE VIVO and my current AIW 7500. The stockclocked AIW 7500 is MUCH faster than the VIVO overclocked. Overclocked(300/420) I get around 5300 3Dmark 2001SE, somewhere around GF2 ultra speeds, regular 7500's have faster ram and overclock a bit higher, hence faster.

I've seen the VIVO retail for as low as $79, so your pricing is not quite right, look around.
