So long, Dr. Dobbs'

Oh no. 🙁

It has been one of my goto bookmarks for the last few years. It has some of the best, in depth articles out there.

I guess it's good that they aren't nuking the content though.

Being just a little younger than DDJ itself, it's been a constant thing, since my very first blinky boxes on an Apple II. I cannot disagree with them, though, and you have to admit, 38 years is an amazing life span, given the kind of market(s) it has served, over the years. 2600, radically different as it is, is probably the only other publication/organization that has had that kind of staying power, at least that hasn't become a shell of its old self.

Dang. I guess it was only a matter of time. I spent quite a bit of time reading both Dr. Dobbs and BYTE when I was first learning to program. The sheer amount, depth, and quality of material covered in those magazines was amazing.

The Slashdot article mentions that they have an offline archive of articles and other stuff from 1988-2009. Might be a nice Christmas present for some people.
