1) The 'Slam Dunk' - turned out that there were no WMD in Iraq, it was a political sell of paranoia.

2) Administration authorizing spying that is prohibited by law, and saying 'Stop me if you can'.

3) CIA Attack on home in Pakistan - clear violation of International Law - an outright act of war,
based on more faulty CIA information that didn't/doesn't hold up to review.
(Although you can bet that there's an undisclosed agreement that the US can in fact act)

4) Iran restarting nuclear research - they say it's for power and energy, Administration says weapons.

5) Same polititians who hyped the mushroom cloud of WMD and destruction over Iraq are repeating the same thing about Iran.

6) North Korea went basically unchalenged during this time, and developed the Nuke !

Now, in the wake of the falsifacation of fact and data over the last 5 years, do we trust the same people
who have begun beating the drums of war over Iran - to have it right this time ?
Has anything really changed in Iran in the last 20 years, other than the stand to make a lot of money if they
sell their petroleum to Asia, if they really were to make nuclear energy for producing power in Iran.

The CIA is to provide intelligence.

Do so in the raw.

Provide analysis without political leanings/guidance. (And this is probably done at the field level)
Let the State and other political groups analyze the information for political content/impact/implimentation.

I don't have a problem with the concept of the CIA or any other Intelligence Agency studying and providing covert data.

The problem I see is when Political Operatives cook the data for supporting an agenda.

One part truth mixed with 6 lies, 5 exagerations, and 3 downright falsifications doesn't add up to facts.

The CIA is great, and analysis is done at Washington, where they think everybody is out to get us, and the rest love everything we do. If we have any chance to stop more fanaticals, it is with the CIA. They are all, or most all heroes in my book.

"My book" would be any Clancy novel then ;)

Many U.S. citizens are going to let the goverment do whatever they wish, as along as it provides them the illusion they feel safer, and doesn't interfere with sitting on their fat arse and watching survivor and 24 while eating cheezy poofs. The polls showing how many don't mind the illegal wire taps, or even really understand what is occurring for that matter, convinced me it is the reality.

The CIA...

Wrong about Russian nukes
Wrong about Vietnam
Wrong about Osama
Wrong about Noriega
Wrong about Iraq
Wrong about Afganistan
Wrong about North Korea
Wrong about Baltimore
Wrong about New York Yankees

... just an outdated worthless goverment agency that cherry-picks it's facts to fit the administration. Complete sheet!

Nope. I may be wrong, but isn't it the NSA who does most of the wiretaps? The CIA should be controlled better, but to say that they are a menace would be kind of extreme. And no, I don't read Tom Clancy, and the only TV I watch as a rule is football, baseball, basketball, etc.

I couldn't agree more, but I have serious doubts as to whether or not that is happening. And actually, it's not pure raw data that's supposed to be coming out of the CIA, they have their own analysts as well who are supposed to distill the raw data into useful conclusions and summaries for the actual decision makers.

I think that part is where the problems lie at the CIA. They take in the raw data, then they are SUPPOSED to do an unbiased analysis of what it means. Most of the time it's not entirely clear, I would imagine, but that's why they have smart people doing the analysis. The problem is that this analysis is almost certainly being tainted by politics...specifically I think the analysts are probably encouraged to reach pre-determined conclusions. It's not that the CIA is wrong, or outdated and incompetent, I just believe they aren't being allowed to do their jobs.
