So last night I learned that it's possible to be 21 and still get ticketed for drinking in a private home

oh and with this situation:

if the cops knocked on the door and didn't have a warrant, and someone let them in, that someone is an idiot. Cops can use their authority to coerce themselves inside pretty easily, but have no room to fight someone who makes use of their complete rights. Private property, cops can enter with permission or warrant.

If that can see into the house (windows) and see illegal activity, they don't need permission to enter. If illegal activity (underage drinking) is happening on the porch, they can enter the porch, but inside the house still requires permission or a warrant.

With that large of a police gathering though, as stated in the OP (yes I realize this is a few years old, just giving people stuff to know), it's likely they indeed did have some kind of policy on their side to gain entrance into the premises. I don't know all the specific little details about what they can do otherwise, because don't warrants require a little time to obtain?

I got a speeding ticket the other day. Clearly I was in the wrong and deserved it but somehow, it got canceled.

Results:

No license suspension for a week
No $300.00 fine
No lost points on my driver license
No hike in insurance fees.

Thank fuck but they had me worried .

Clearly, they had you worried if you cared to create a thread on this issue and came back to brag about it 3 years later.

You've been a good boy since (or haven't been caught) so this event had a positive effect on your life.

As for me, I watch my speed a little bit more and I am some glad that fucking cop screwed up the ticket

LOL

On another note, how bored are the cops of your city if they can send 30 of them to break up a house party? I've never even heard of that happening here.

It's Minneapolis. That place is a cesspool. I'm glad I moved out of it.

Edit: For god's sake, this thread is ancient.

That's because in other place slike college towns where I went to, you have only 2-3 cops showing up. All they do is just tell you to stop making noise. Sometimes you get a warning letter. Some frat party I went to had like 5-6 cops show up and just take pictures with a camera. I posted a thread about that years ago. I think it was just to tell everyone to GTFO since it was a huge house anyway. We all just left. End of story.

The cops usually only bug the owners to tell people to GTFO. Not everyone has to leave. Maybe just like 1/3 can stay. I was at another party where most people left and at least 20 or so stuck around to take care of the drunk people. Apparently some people started blasting music again and the cops came back saying "If you guys don't quiet down I'm gonna ticket everyone. I know there are people under 21 here."

But yes, don't open the door for cops unless the have a warrant. I guess I'm lucky I've hosted many parties at my apt without issue. My neighbors are cool with it or something. My most recent one I left notes under their doors too!

Couldn't they use the old "probable cause" angle ? Underage drinking etc...

So now you have a misdemeanor on your record? Awesome. Thats going to be tons of fun to explain to any grad school you might want to apply to...

I bet you're fun at parties. Oh wait...

edit: Also didn't realize how old this shit was. Stop with the zombie threads.
