I find myself in a store in Flushing, Queens looking at a container filled with toads (or were they frogs? What's the difference???) with a sign next to it reading $3.99 a pound.

Such happy looking toads too, about the size of my fist, just sitting around in the ruber container thing, not knowing everyone is looking at them for dinner.

I wonder what they taste like..

How many to a pound and how many did you take home? Are they still happy-looking?

WTF?

I have heard of licking toads, but eating them?

There are better things to eat than that.

Are you sure they weren't frogs? Lots of people eat frogs. Never heard of anyone eating toads. (Hint: if they were wet, they were frogs.)

Turtle soup is a delicacy and it's not just oriental. It's quite common in Europe and the US. Years ago I worked construction with a guy from Kentucky and if we saw a snapping turtle along the road we had to pull over and pick it up. One 50 pounder got himself wedged in the corner of a car trunk one time (head sticking out at us) and it was real tricky getting him out.

If you want to see the oriental variety of reptiles, check this out:

Frogs legs taste a little like chicken... (the other other white meat)

And, turtle soup (snapper soup) tastes incredible... You can often find it in good restaurants. I wish my wife knew how to make it... but, since she doesn't, I just cut the line when I catch a snapper. (actually, I never catch them, but my kids have the uncanny ability to catch turtles whenever we go fishing)

Have you ever been in an oriental grocery store? They have some things that would seem strange to us, but to them is just fine. The one thing that really sticks out is frozen jellyfish, yes jellyfish. They also had freeze dried jellyfish. Wonder how you would cook jellyfish, and does it taste like chicked:D

I realize that, but a bunch of huge frogs was a whole new level for me.
