So I've got a new (to me) MBP on the way.

Early 2011 MBP 13"

This is my first ever venture into the world of Apple (aside from the iPad which I gave to my parents and a couple of iPod's). I'm a web developer (not designer) by trade, currently developing in ColdFusion with a switch to RoR and Python on the horizon.

What are some tools that might appeal to me, what should I explore, what does the Apple group here @ ATA recommend.

Help me ATA you're my only hope.

Congrats & welcome to the club! TheStu has a nice intro-to-Macs guide here:

If you need to get into Windows, other than dual-booting, you can use a virtualization option such as VMware, Parallels, or Virtualbox.

The multi-touch gestures on the MBP are worth learning: (some mod apps are available too if you want to tweak them, like MagicPrefs & BetterTouchTool)

http://www.apple.com/osx/what-is/gestures.html

Just a few starter apps:

The Unarchiver (zip program)
VLC (media player)
AppCleaner (app uninstaller)

Oh man, I love the shout-out, but that thing is sooo out of date. OP, if you come across anything in the guide that isn't exactly the same as what you find on your system, it's ok. Apple likes to move stuff around between versions.

MBP is here and I feel right at home. Went to Microcenter today and picked up a Vertex 4 128gb SSD for it. On an impulse buy I also grabbed the 16gb ram kit for it (had 4gb stock). Let's just say this thing flies!
