So I've got a hernia

For the past 5-6 years I've had a bulge in my lower stomach just to the upper left of my nads. I never thought much of it because it doesn't hurt. I'm extremely active and over the last 5-6 years have weight lifted, run, climbed, wrestled, etc with it. Well the one guy on here just posted about his hernia and it got me curious. I was meeting a nurse friend of mine for lunch and had her check it out for me. Sure enough - I've got a hernia. It's apparently quite large. It's a little weird to be poking at your instestine and feeling it move.

I'd suggest that you active guys get checked out for them. Mine is a fairly normal one - it isn't messed up and cutting off blood flow or anything, so I can have it repaired at my leisure. But be warned that if your intestine does get tangled up you can be in SERIOUS pain and require emergency room surgery. They're no big deal to repair - it's the most common surgery done in the U.S.

My nurse friend said that if you have horrible pains related to a hernia (like the guy in the other thread) then you need to get it fixed ASAP.

Just a PSA.

Wow, this really warranted another thread.

We need more sarcastic emoticons.
Do you really think this post needed another thread?
I think he should have just posted it in the other one.

Why would we need a sarcastic emoticon?

I've got an umbilical hernia. That means I've got a super 'outie" 😛
My doc keeps telling me to get it fixed, so I don't end up in emergency surgery some day. But it doesn't bother me much for the most part, and I just haven't found the time yet.

My father just had two of them removed last year (he's 55) - he's had them since his 20's, and he said he wish he had it removed earlier. They were so large to the point that he has some sort of grille actually in his abdominal area where it used to be because it got so large. The earlier you take care of it, the better.
