So I've decided wth my new Rig ....

AMD Athlon 64 X2 4400+ (hope to be around $600, $581 according to AT)
DFI LANPARTY nF4 SLI-DR Socket 939
MSI NX6800Ultra-T2D256E Geforce 6800Ultra 256MB PCI-E
Crucial Ballistix 2x 512MB DDR500 (PC4000)
THERMALTAKE Kandalf VA9000SWA
Antec TruePower 2.0 550W PSU
some DVD-R /CDR combo drive
generic CDRom/Floppy

only thing is,
1. When will the dual core AMD's be releasd? (I heard June?? but thinking more Sept?) is pricing about right for it?
2. When will the nVidia G70's be released? And price? Read June 22 around $600? is that realistic? Should I wait for that? or stick with the 6800Ultra ?

This is at my spending limit right now (around $1900) total and my parents are paying part of it (around $800-$900), so I only spending around $1000-$1100, which is where I wanted to be at.

not sure I want to spend anymore for the Gfx card, but maybe its worth it since I'm already spending around $525 anyways ???

What you guys think?

G70 ain't coming out for a while. Same with the X2s.

hmmm, been looking around, and it says June? almost everywhere I see June, and even May 31 ( http://www.anandtech.com/news/shownews.aspx?i=24288 )

I just can't wait until the X2's come out...then it's off with the credit card...lol

just wait for X2 and next gen

alternatively go with 3700 or higher and upgrade later or even 3200 or higher and upgrade after 10-12months and take 6600gt and highend vid card of next gen when they come though they my be expensive

If all you plan to do is game with this computer, I can't see why X2 would be a good investment. Sure games may be programmed in the future to take advantage of dual core, but by that time, the dual core chip you purchased at launch will be obsolete. Of course I may be wrong but this is just the way I look at it. As for G70, it will probably be realeased in late Fall I am guessing. Of course it will come at a premium at it's launch.

my current setup?

parent's dell 1.7Ghz 128MB VC (I think Ti200 or something like that, not at the computer right now) 256MB RDRAM

I'll be moving out, and some games I been playing can't run on it (have to play out soon) and obviously I'll need my own computer. So I think it's time for an upgrade, lol ....

I'm thinking on just getting the 6800Ultra anyways ..... maybe even use my parent's card from their comp until fall, then when the new G70 comes out, get the 6800Ultra when it drops in price .... if the G70 is within $50 of what I am going to pay now ($525), MAYBE get the G70 anyways ....

If your waiting for an X2, chances are that the G70 will be out by then.

June may be when the G70 is announced, but don't expect retail product for a while after that.

I doubt it and what are your sources??? vendors are starting to say end of May to mid month June and these are not OEM builders...So unless AMD delays shipments from now until then or releases them in such limited quantities you should be able to have one by end of June....

If Nvidia and ATI are any sign any vid card launch is a a paper launch with availability several months later....
