So I've decided on Accord EX--but coupe or sedan????

Today I test-drove three Accord EX 4-cyls: two coupes (one leather, one cloth) and one sedan (cloth)...

I've decided not to spring for leather--I can save more money without it and the cloth seats are fine IMHO...

The only question remaining is whether I should get coupe or sedan. Is one more reliable than the other??? This is a lease vehicle, and as such I have a mileage limit, and as such I wouldn't be taking this on trips so I don't need the extra luggage capacity nor do I care about rear seat legroom, etc. Is there any difference in insurance between four door and coupe?

Barring any major insurance differences I'd get the Coupe if I were you.

Personally I'd get the Sedan in cloth, probably a better chance of selling it in a few years.

not sure if its true for the accord but i remember reading on the civic the coupe is designed in america and the sedan in japan...i of course would take the "pure" japanese engineering 🙂

heh

Why on earth would you give up the functionality of the extra doors? It's not like it's going to be way faster without them or something.

get an LX v6! imo thats where the most bang for the buck is... i have that in coupe red 🙂 no stick available tho 🙁

the coupe has a larger premium. which is annoying. apparently choosing a coupe signals some intent to the insurance company that you'll drive the car harder. i wonder if thats statistically true?

the 2 doors will keep people from wanting to take your car very often, so its another way to cut down on miles.

Hmm...gotta check with the State Farm agent tomorrow...

The US vs. Japan argument only works for exterior styling--both the Civic coupe and Accord coupe are styled in Honda's Acura design studio in California. Personally, I think the coupe just looks better (I LOVE the Acura NSX/Legend-inspired taillights!)

My lease is pretty cheap. The deal works out to about $159 a month for a loaded EX (only $189/mo with leather, $219/mo with V6 and $249 with loaded EX V6 leather, spoiler, wooden steering wheel!) Since my salary's a joke I'm going for the $159/month ($3500 down due at signing, 36 months, 3% highway tax, 15,000 mile limit.)

holy bejesus where are you getting those rates!?!?

<--- wants one with a 6 and a sunroof

The Coupe wins in styling, hands down.

I personally think the sedan looks good/okay as well, but a lot of people think it's rather conventional.

Since most people buy Accords with an intent to own the vehicle for years to come, I think the decision comes down to practicality. If you don't see yourself needing a sedan (people mover) within the next 5 years, then go with your heart.

People have been anticipating a new Accord's release this fall. Are you sure you want to buy now?

ElFenix,

I live in Charlotte, NC--home of the infamous Hendrick Honda. Rick Hendrick (multimillionaire owner of the largest dealership network in the country) was indicted a couple of years ago for anticompetitive practices...other Honda dealers said he negotiated illegal deals with Honda of America's regional managers and was literally dumping cars. He went to jail, but the lawsuit was dismissed by a higher court and they still offer the lowest Honda prices anywhere.

Also, you should begin seeing MANY incentives on the Accord in the coming months--a totally redesigned 2003 Accord arrives this fall (sedan, coupe and wagon) so dealers will start clearing inventory soon.

EDIT: Oh yea, forgot to mention that the Accord also carries an extremely high residual. The purchase price after the lease is up will be pretty high (these cars retain value well) and that's why the payments are low. When leasing, it is best to look for a car that depreciates as slow as possible to get the best payments.

hmmm... and here i'm stuck in central texas. gonna hit the papers. i wonder what the residual is on a maxima? those should be deep discounted soon too, and 255 HP + 6 spd + 17s = more fun than accord

Insurance is also a lot more than a similarly priced Accord.

The 2 door coupe is considered a sports car depending on what insurance company you have and what county you live in. A guy at work with a 00 2 door EX 4 cylinder is paying sports car rate for his.

Coupe = longer doors, more likely to whack another car in a parking lot.
Coupe = less doors, pain for >2 people.
Coupe = a little sporty-er looking.

Sedan = more doors, good for >2 people.
Sedan = higher resale (at least in my area, sedans go for $500-$1000 more).
Sedan = a little more "family" look, although can look very sporty.

the coupe is definetely "cooler" looking
but the sedan is more functional and the sedan looks pretty good too with a low spoiler.

If you care about rear passengers, the get the sedan. The coupe is a pain to get people in and out of the rear, and the roof is very low in the back.

IMHO, coupes are nice looking, but I always prefer the practicality of a four door.
