Im 26 years old and never knew an alcoholic. I got plenty of friends who drink. I grew up in a single mother home. but, like I said before, I never knew an alcoholic.

So tell me. Am I an alcoholic?

There's lots of criteria for the title that will change depending on who you ask.

The better question is, who cares? If you're having a good time, fuck what anyone else thinks and enjoy it. 🙂

Physical addiction is not the only form of alcoholism. Chronic binge drinking is another.

Meh, I'm an alcoholic then. My tolerance is stupid high, but I don't drink alone.

I'd say a good test would be to go to the pub with friends, and only drink water. If you can do that, you're not an alcoholic.

Oh, I can do that no problem. I went to a 80's bar 2 weeks ago and had a blast stone cold sober. No problem meeting a woman either. I just prefer to do it all after 10-15 drinks. That's not even binge drinking for me though.

People who do that are lame and should get the fuck out of the bar.

Fixed.... I'm typically pretty crazy regardless. I danced for about 3 hours straight with various groups. When I was talking to the gal I met the next day she thought that I was hammered.

seems to be easier said than done

according to ATOT unless you drink with at least 2.5 people in the room you're an alcoholic

and even if there are 2.5 people there if you drink more than 3 beers you're an alcoholic

I'm sure it takes you a lot to get drunk. They don't call you TallBill for nothing.

If you don't notice there is only half a person in the room when you're drinking then you do have a problem! 😀

How often a week do you drink?

How many drinks do you have in one setting?

Has drinking caused problems in your life?

Do you often find yourself thinking you need a drink?

1) 1 to 3 times a week (rum)

2) 9-10 shots of rum using beer as a chaser

3) My girlfriend doesnt like when I drink. But losing a job or my girl because I drink too much? No.

4) All the time. Usually when Im bored. Im from Brooklyn NY. But due to business, im stuck in a island which you can make drive from west to east in about 3-4 hours. I dont know anybody except family. So when I wake up I take care of business. Then I drink.

You're well on your way, if not there already. The medical definition of alcoholism is below if youre curious:

DSM-IV Alcohol Abuse (1 or more criteria for over 1 year)
  1. Role Impairment (e.g. failed work or home obligations)
Hazardous use (e.g. Driving while intoxicated)
Legal problems related to Alcohol use
Social or interpersonal problems due to Alcohol

DSM-IV Alcohol Dependence (3 criteria for over 1 year)
  1. Tolerance (increased drinking to achieve same effect)
    Alcohol Withdrawal signs or symptoms
    Drinking more than intended
Unsuccessful attempts to cut down on use
Excessive time related to Alcohol (obtaining, hangover)
Impaired social or work activities due to Alcohol
Use despite physical or psychological consequences

I thought I was an alcoholic since I like to have 1 or 2 nightcaps before bed (most nights), but I have none of those symptoms. Yay for me!

i drink beers every tuesday night after hockey. does that make me an alkie? fuck no. live your life how you see fit, don't abuse anything or let it take control of you, and fuck all the traditional concepts of alcoholism and addiction. do what makes you happy and do it right now, we could all die tomorrow. just be happy and try to help everyone around you be happy too.

sounds to me like you're 26 and PARTYIN and enjoying yourself. 26 is nothing, you're just a young cub. we're all just little nothings anyway. carry on.

Ding Ding Ding!

We got a winner!

I do cartwheels in a bikini all day at the beach, hoping somebody would take pictures of me!

If you continue to use alcohol in spite of negative consequences from that use, yes you're an alcoholic.

exactly. your girlfriend doesn't like you drinking, so why keep doing it? why do you feel the need to drink every week, let alone 3 times a week?
